The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has ruled that Jerry Sandusky be re-sentenced on the basis that in 2012 the judge improperly imposed mandatory minimum terms that sent the former Penn State football coach away for 30-60 years.

In the same ruling, the court rejected Sandusky’s appeal for a new trial. Sandusky, now 75, was convicted by a Centre County Jury of 45 counts of sexual molestation and remains imprisoned in Western Pennsylvania.   Continue reading “Sandusky needs to be resentenced, court says”

A Colorado man is expected to make a full recovery after suffocating a mountain lion to death when the animal attacked him while he was running.

According to The Coloradoan, the man was jogging on a path in Horsetooth Mountain Park near Fort Collins when the 80-pound animal appeared from behind and began attacking him. Despite suffering cuts to his face and wrists from the lion’s claws, the unidentified man was able to wrestle himself free from the feline. CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Trooper Lucas B. Dowell was killed when someone inside a home fired a weapon at police executing a search warrant during a drug investigation. The person who killed Trooper Dowell was shot and killed by police.

Foreign-born workers are continuing to make significant employment gains over native-born American workers, the latest federal job data reveals.

For the month of January, foreign-born workers increased their labor participation rate year-to-year nearly nine times as much as native-born Americans. Likewise, foreign workers enjoyed nearly four times the job growth in January as American workers. MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Thousands of U.S.-bound Central American migrants resumed their northern journey on Thursday, Mexico City officials said, part of a growing group of would-be asylum seekers who say they are fleeing violence and poverty back home.

Update: As we previewed below, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has announced that the US will withdraw from the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces treaty immediately, prompting threats of a Russian “response” from Moscow.

According to RT, Pompeo said the US could return to compliance with the treaty if Moscow meets Washington’s demands within the next 180 days. To convince the US to back down, Washington has insisted that Russia cease development of a new cruise missile. A total of 20 individuals were arrested by federal authorities on Thursday after being accused of operating “birth tourism” businesses which essentially sold birthright American citizenship to pregnant Chinese women looking to permanently stay in the United States.

HOUSTON (AP) — What started as an online fundraiser to provide President Donald Trump with donations for his southern border wall has morphed into a foundation whose members vow to build a wall themselves.

The “We The People Will Build the Wall” campaign has surpassed $20 million since it was created in December by Air Force veteran and triple amputee Brian Kolfage. Miami (AFP) – Road workers in Florida sent out to repair a sinkhole got a surprise this week when they discovered it was caused by a tunnel leading to a nearby bank.

On Monday evening in Houston, a dozen armed men broke into the home of Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas, a middle-aged couple who had lived in the house at 7815 Harding Street for at least two decades. The first man through the door, who was armed with a shotgun, used it to kill one of the couple’s dogs. Tuttle responded to the home invasion by grabbing a revolver and shooting the man with the shotgun, who collapsed on a sofa in the living room. As Nicholas tried to disarm the intruder, his accomplices shot her. Tuttle returned fire, and by the end of the shootout he and his wife were both dead. RENO, Nev. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Energy revealed on Wednesday that it secretly shipped weapons-grade plutonium from South Carolina to a nuclear security site in Nevada months ago despite the state’s protests.

A missing 3-year-old boy who was found alive after enduring two days of heavy rain and freezing temperatures says it was a bear who kept him safe and warm.
