America’s European allies are finally spending more on defense, but the Trump administration is raising hell about it because some of the allies want to spend the money on weapons made in their own countries.

The irony is immense. Throughout his presidency, and even before, Trump has been browbeating the NATO allies to boost their defense budgets, even threatening to leave the alliance if they didn’t pony up. Now that they’re doing so in a politically viable way—by investing in their own companies—top U.S. officials are complaining.  Continue reading “The Trump Administration Has a New Problem With Europe”

Amazon is setting the stage for a major platform shift — and for thousands of small vendors, it could be a devastating change. In a bid to refocus their wholesaling efforts on big brands and encourage more third-party sellers, Amazon will cease ordering from small wholesale vendors. Putting an emphasis on goods from companies like Proctor & Gamble and Sony will be advantageous for Amazon, but for the little guys, this change will come at a steep cost.  Continue reading “Amazon to drop nearly all small brands in sellout to Proctor & Gamble (and other big, toxic corporate brands)”

A person who obtained a large quantity of drugs was arrested, but the way the evidence against him was obtained should worry others about their constitutional rights.

In a legal decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, three judges determined that even though police illegally entered Paul Huskisson’s home without a warrant, the evidence they obtained during that illegal entrance could be used against him in court. Hanford, situated 322 kilometers from Seattle, was established by the Manhattan Project during World War II. The site contains roughly 60 percent of the US’ most dangerous radioactive waste, all stored in decaying underground tanks, some of which have leaked. Clean-up of the site has been ongoing since the 1980s, costing over US$2 billion annually.

The US Department of Energy plans to reclassify some of the country’s most dangerous radioactive waste in order to lower its threat level.  Continue reading “US to Downgrade Danger of Nuclear Waste to Quicken Clean-Up Efforts”

Some of my favorite childhood memories take place in the empty lot behind my old house. It was about two acres of land filled with dirt, sagebrush, and tumbleweeds. And as unpleasant and unsanitary as it sounds to me now, it was a dream for my siblings and me. We dug holes, made hideouts, played kick-the-can, and had many other grand adventures that I will always cherish. What I don’t cherish were the ticks. I probably spent just as many hours playing in the field as I did on the bathroom floor while my mom combed through my hair looking for the little critters. There’s no doubt about it, ticks are nasty. The only thing worse than a tick is a tick with a deadly virus. Continue reading “Tick Carrying Deadly Brain Swelling Virus Found In New York”

It’s not every day that the National Security Agency urges you to update your computer.

Three weeks ago, a critical Windows security vulnerability known as BlueKeep was revealed and fixed. In that short time, Microsoft has repeatedly begged users of older Windows versions to make sure their machines are up to date. The company even released fixes for Windows XP, Server 2003, and Vista—a slate of unsupported operating systems that usually don’t get much attention.  Continue reading “This Windows Flaw Is So Bad, Even the NSA Is Begging You to Update”

U.S. leaders are demanding the rest of the world recognize economic sanctions and stop buying Iranian oil. The U.K., Germany, France, Russia, China, and India are among the nations who don’t fully support the sanctions and would rather not pay higher prices for oil elsewhere.

American officials more and more often resort to delivering ultimatums, both to adversaries and allies alike. Nations that do not follow orders stand to lose access to the U.S. financial system and could face trade sanctions of their own. That is a serious threat. House Democrats are expected on Tuesday to bring to a vote a bill to grant protection from deportation and a path to permanent residency for millions of illegal immigrants.

H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act, will likely pass the Democratic-controlled House, although it is dead on arrival in the Republican-controlled Senate. The bill passed through the House Judiciary Committee last month, following what Politico called an “intraparty squabble” over whether or not it should provide a path to citizenship to certain individuals with criminal records, and whether or not it should extend federal financial aid to illegal immigrants.   Continue reading “House Dems Expected to Vote on Mass Amnesty Bill”

Israeli politics reached a new level of absurdity on Tuesday when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – who is facing three separate corruption charges – allocated the justice portfolio to himself, on top of his other ministries.

The move leaves Netanyahu, who has served as Israel’s premier continuously for the last decade, in control of four ministries –in addition to the prime minister’s office– including Defense, Health, Education and, now, Justice.  Continue reading “Netanyahu becomes Israel’s new Justice Minister while he still faces criminal charges”

“The ability of the owners of the political/media class to discredit and neutralize anyone who poses a threat to their interests simply by rearranging the narratives about them is one of the most destructive psychological weapons in their arsenal. The main reason it’s so hard to convince the public that they have been taken in by propaganda and smear campaigns is because for some stupid reason, one of the most shameful things anyone can do in our society is be fooled. If we are to overcome the narrative dominance of the powerful, it is essential that we find a way to shift that shame from those who have been fooled onto those who have been fooling them.”— Caitlin Johnstone   Continue reading “The War On Truth”

The shaping of the public into antagonistic tribes works commercially. It works politically. But it is a recipe for social disintegration.

HAVEN’T YOU EVER AT LEAST BEEN CURIOUS AS TO WHAT “THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD WAR II STORY” WAS?

Since the mid-20th century, the world has only ever heard one side of the most horrific war in human history. During the 75 years that have now passed, only a single narrative of the great conflict has been heard. This over simplistic narrative totally ignores the previous decades of critical history leading up to World War II, ignores vital information from the actual war years, and outright fabricates lie after lie after lie.
