Activist sues city for violation of free-speech rightsNew York Post – by Rich Calder

A Harlem activist — once dubbed a “professional agitator” by the NYPD for filming cops conducting stop-and-frisks — slapped the city with a lawsuit Wednesday claiming police officers have repeatedly violated her free-speech rights by taking her into custody for filming them at public protests.

Christina Gonzalez, who lost a bid last year for an Upper Manhattan City Council seat as a Green Party candidate, filed the Manhattan federal court lawsuit against the city, NYPD and unnamed cops over three incidents from September 2011 to July 2012 in which she was arrested and restrained while filming cops’ actions at protests. In each of three Manhattan incidents, she claims her First Amendment rights were violated to prevent her from legally protesting against authorities.   Continue reading “Activist sues city for violation of free-speech rights”

A large data breach at Home Depot Inc. HD +1.67% has started to trigger fraudulent transactions that are rippling across financial institutions and, in some cases, draining cash from customer bank accounts, according to people familiar with the impact of the hacking attack.

The fraudulent transactions are showing up across the U.S. as criminals use stolen card information to buy prepaid cards, electronics and even groceries, these people said. In some cases, the fraudulent transactions have been tracked to batches of cardholder accounts that are tied to specific ZIP Codes, they said.   Continue reading “Fraudulent Transactions Surface in Wake of Home Depot Breach”

PHOENIX, AZ –-(Ammoland.com)- The lamestream media told you:

Nothing.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

Talk is already circulating on what to do to recognize a special firearms anniversary coming up late this year. In October we’ll be recognizing the fact that 20 years ago, millions of decent Arizonans acquired the ability to discreetly carry firearms legally, and virtually no one was harmed — although it required a government permission slip and a lot of red tape at first.   Continue reading “Twenty Years of Guns On The Street”

WASHINGTON (AP) – Residents of the nation’s capital will be able to get licenses to carry concealed handguns outside the home, but only after they provide a specific reason for needing one, officials said Wednesday.

Mayor Vincent Gray and other city officials said they plan to propose legislation that would make the District of Columbia similar to a half-dozen states, including Maryland, where residents can be denied a concealed-carry permit if they can’t show a need for one. The Supreme Court declined to hear a challenge to Maryland’s law last year.   Continue reading “D.C. rewrites gun laws, proposes concealed-carry licensing program”

The municipal identification cards that New York plans to start issuing next year in an effort to make life easier for undocumented immigrants will come with an added benefit so enticing the hope is that many other New Yorkers may sign up for them too: coupon books offering free tickets or other discounts at 33 of the city’s leading cultural institutions.

Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall; the Bronx Zoo and the New York Botanical Garden; the American Museum of Natural History, the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and many others will offer a variety of perks — most of them equivalent to a basic one-year membership — to holders of the new ID cards, which are expected to be made available to any city resident over age 14, regardless of their legal status.    Continue reading “New York City ID Cards Coming With Cultural Benefits”

The hit and run driver that struck Dulcie Canton on her bike in Bushwick last month was caught on video and seen by a witness. The side view mirror that broke off the vehicle during the collision helped Canton identify the car that hit her. Though Canton’s attorney sent three letters to the 83rd Precinct imploring officers to investigate her case, they have not questioned the alleged driver. Last night the precinct commander gave an explanation as to why they’ve ignored Canton’s case: she hasn’t contacted them.    Continue reading “Bushwick Cops Crack Down On Cyclists, Neglect To Investigate Hit & Run Driver”
