Congress has suffered from increasingly lower approval ratings during the now eight-day long government shutdown, and on Tuesday we got some new comparisons to help put that into perspective. As new  poll finds that Congress is less popular than hemorrhoids, potholes, and even dog poop.

As documented by a new study, getting a flu vaccination can result in coming down with a more virulent influenza. This phenomenon was noted during the swine flu pandemic-that-wasn’t a couple of years ago, but pooh-poohed by skeptics.

In the study^[1] published in the journal Science Translational Medicine, pigs were given a universal flu vaccine of the type currently under development. I wish I could talk about the farm today.  I have a lot of pictures to post.  The farm is doing good things as it produces chickens for sale, grows pigs, feeds dairy and beef cows, and is in full summer vegetable production.  I enjoyed a pre-breakfast snack of raspberries the other morning while I watched the sun burn the fog off the bottom fields.  These are the things I’d like to talk about.
