Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. George Brown (KJRH)Huffington Post – by Laura Bassett

In response to the arrests of three law enforcement officials in Oklahoma for sexually assaulting women while on the job, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper told women they can avoid getting raped by a cop if they simply follow traffic laws.

Raw Story first pointed out on Tuesday that Capt. George Brown, a state trooper, shared a few tips for women in an interview with local NBC News affiliate KJRH. Brown told the KJRH anchor that women can keep their car doors locked and speak through a cracked window if a trooper approaches them. If the trooper asks a woman to get out of the car, Brown said, she can ask “in a polite way” why he wants her to do that. Continue reading “Cop’s Tip For Not Getting Raped By A Cop: ‘Don’t Get Pulled Over’”

On Friday, May 9, 2014, just after 5:30am in Killeen, Texas, Marvin Louis Guy was the target of a no knock raid.

The officers were looking for drugs, yet none were found in the home. There was some questionable paraphernalia, but nothing indicative of drug dealing- or anything damning enough for a reasonable person to feel the need to take an officers life. Continue reading “Man Shoots at Intruders, Turns Out it was a No-Knock Raid. If you rely on your Oklahoma Driver’s license to get into a secure area like a federal building or an airplane, things will be changing. Oklahoma is one of a handful of states that hasn’t complied with a federal mandate to make our driver’s licenses more secure.

Beginning in 2015, you won’t be able to use your Oklahoma Driver’s license as an ID to get through security at federal buildings. And in 2016 you won’t be able to use it at the airport either.

Photo - Daniel Martin Jr., of Lawton, was killed March 16 by the Lawton Police Department. News OK – by Jennifer Palmer

It was Daniel Martin Jr. who called 911 the day he died, to report vandals in his driveway. The decorated Army veteran’s voice is frenzied and at one point, the dispatcher tells him to calm down.

“They’re still at my front door,” he said.

The dispatcher asks if the vandals have a firearm, and Martin says he can’t tell. “But I have one,” he adds. “I’m inside with my weapon.”

A female dispatcher relayed that to responding officers. But when Martin opened his front door for the police, someone shouted “gun,” and Lawton police officers Elijah Garcia and Anthony Edwards fired multiple rounds, killing Martin, 47. Several documents were released recently by the Peaceful Streets Project detailing how the Austin Police Department, The Austin Police Association, and several figures of authority conspired against The Peaceful Streets project, Cop Block, Oath Keepers, and several other peaceful organizations in an attempt to slander American activists as a whole. Police tried to draw conclusions backed with zero evidence in an attempt to gain the power to incarcerate activists who have broken no laws. The Justice Department will be investigating the Ferguson PD in the wake of an unarmed citizen’s shooting by Officer Darren Wilson. Already, news has surfaced that the police force has a history of discriminatory actions and a problem with deploying excessive force. But should we even trust the DOJ to do this? If the DOJ is going to police the nation’s police, then it should be holding its own agencies and employees to the highest standards. But it doesn’t. It doesn’t even come close.

Documents obtained by McClatchy News Service [pdf link] reveal incident after incident of misconduct uncovered by the Office of the Inspector General. They range from the merely questionable to the wholly unacceptable, but one thread holds them all together: a nearly complete lack of accountability. Continue reading “DOJ Investigates Law Enforcement Agencies All Over The Nation But Can’t Be Bothered To Police Itself”

A recent move by Wisconsin utility We Energies to not only raise electricity rates on all consumers but also to add an additional charge on those who produce their own energy and sell it back to the grid has sparked outrage within the state and beyond. The plan would raise the “fixed charge” on all customers’ electric bills from $9 to $16 a month, as well as reduce net metering — a policy that enables customers with solar panels or other forms of distributed generation to sell their excess electricity back to the grid — and add a new charge on these electricity-generating customers. Continue reading “Push To Impose Extra Fees On Solar Customers Draws Outrage In Wisconsin”
