About half of the nation’s 3,069 county economies are still short of their prerecession economic output, reflecting the uneven economic recovery, according to a new report from the National Association of Counties.

COLUMBIA, SC (INTELLIHUB) — This week the east coast has been hit with a number of chemical and radioactive disasters that contaminated local communities. A chemical spill in West Virginia this week left hundreds of thousands of people without water, and thousands sick. Now it has been reported that a radioactive plume is leaking from a site in South Carolina.
The Barnell Nuclear site occupies about 235 acres of land originally owned by Chem-Nuclear Systems (CNS). Disposal of waste began at the facility in 1971 and Chem-Nuclear Systems (CNS), currently owned by Energy Solutions, has been the sole operator since that time. HOLLY COMMENTARY: The following, including the title, is from a personal friend in Australia. It is impossible not to see that America is headed precisely down this same path, spearheaded by Obama. Yesterday a site reader took me to task for making pointed comments about our not-so-wonderful President. It is hard not to be passionate, hence pointed comments, when a Country is riding a juggernaut into oblivion.
The author of this oped and I speak several times a week commiserating on how both of our beloved Countries are going straight into the toilet. America wasn’t on a terrific path pre-Obama, but he’s accelerated our demise at a staggering pace. Americans on main street may have a bleak outlook on the Obama economy in 2014, but President Barack Obama’s Wall Street campaign donors and friends are scoring record profits off the Obamacare debacle–a reality that may further complicate Democrats’ “income inequality” message when voters head to the polls in November.
The most recent Gallup poll finds that 56% of Americans believe the economy is getting worse. For Obama’s big money backers, however, the Obamacare fiasco has generated massive profits and contracts. In 2008, the healthcare industry contributed an astounding $22,471,562 to Obama–a sum nearly three times greater than it donated to his Republican challenger. Their “investment” paid off in 2013, as the healthcare sector index gained 37.5%, making it the S&P 500’s best-performing sector. Detroit— If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said Thursday.
Urban police chiefs are typically in favor of gun control or reluctant to discuss the issue, but Craig on Thursday was candid about how he’s changed his mind.
“When we look at the good community members who have concealed weapons permits, the likelihood they’ll shoot is based on a lack of confidence in this Police Department,” Craig said at a press conference at police headquarters, adding that he thinks more Detroit citizens feel safer, thanks in part to a 7 percent drop in violent crime in 2013. The first step in Jewel v. NSA is for the court to decide whether to adopt or reject the government’s invocation of the controversial ‘state secrets’ privilege—a legal tool that started as a limited shield intended to protect legitimate and critical government national security secrets, but which the government has attempted to turn into a sword to block Americans seeking to enforce the law and the Constitution.
Essentially, by invoking the state secrets privilege in this way, the government argues that even if all of the allegations of serious law-breaking and Constitutional violations are true, surveillance of millions of ordinary Americans is exempt from judicial review.
