Anyone excited by the idea of stepping into a driverless car should read the results of a somewhat alarming experiment at Bristol’s University of the West of England, where a robot was programmed to rescue others from certain doom… but often didn’t.

The so-called ‘Ethical robot’, also known as the Asimov robot, after the science fiction writer whose work inspired the film ‘I, Robot’, saved robots, acting the part of humans, from falling into a hole: but often stood by and let them trundle into the danger zone.   Continue reading “Robot with “morals” makes surprisingly deadly decisions”

Since when does the Department of Justice coordinate with an obviously liberal media organization to go after a conservative reporter? It’s official: At least since 2011.

In email exchanges obtained by The Daily Caller in two separate FOIA requests, a coordinated effort to slam Breitbart News reporter Matthew Boyleemerged. To be sure, Boyle is not a reporter who is beloved by other reporters and he’s been critiqued on any number of matters that include his youthful chipmunk cheeks, his previously questionable Twitter avatar and his TV skills. But his beat was DOJ and Eric Holder and shouldn’t a reporter be commended for going after an enterprising story or two on his beat?   Continue reading “Department Of Justice, Media Matters Coordinate To Attack Reporter”

The Obama administration has “widened the loopholes” that Islamic State and other extremist fighters could use to enter the United States, a leading union of immigration officials says.

In a statement obtained by National Review Online, the U.S. National Citizenship and Immigration Services Council, a union representing 12,000 federal immigration agents, sounded the alarm that not only could jihadists “slip across our porous southern border,” but that fighters could also “exploit our loose and lax visa policies to gain entry to the United States.”   Continue reading “Immigration Agent Union: Obama Admin ‘Widened the Loopholes’ for ISIS to Enter U.S.”

On Tuesday, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted to spend $2.1 million over the next two years so that illegal immigrants in the city can have lawyers for fast-tracked deportation proceedings, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Over 2,000 juveniles or parents with children are waiting for those proceedings.

WASHINGTON, D.C. —  The House voted to provide the Obama administration the authority to arm and train Syrian rebels to fight against ISIS Wednesday, despite the widespread concern that the strategy might not work.

The authorization passed 273-156.

The legislation provides the Obama administration the authority to give arms and training to “vetted elements” of the Syrian opposition to fight against ISIS, requires the Secretary of Defense to brief Congress on the plan 15 days in advance and mandates a status report every 90 days. The amendment explicitly denies authority for ground troops.   Continue reading “Syria Authorization Passes Despite Doubts in Strategy”

A Virginia company is developing a radar gunlike device that would help police catch drivers as they text.

The technology works by detecting the telltale radio frequencies that emit from a vehicle when someone inside is using a cellphone, said Malcolm McIntyre of ComSonics. Cable repairmen use similar means to find where a cable is damaged – from a rodent, for instance – by looking for frequencies leaking in a transmission, McIntyre said.   Continue reading “New device in the works to catch texting drivers”
