Syrian rebels have cast doubt on claims that the head of the al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front, Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, has been killed in western Syria.

State-run TV said he had been killed in the coastal province of Latakia, but provided no details.

A source in Latakia later told the BBC that Mr Jolani was believed to have left the area some time ago.

Further to my last post wondering if Israel might launch a pre-emptive unilateral attack against Iran before the gulf between Israel and the US over Iran’s nuclear program gets to a point of no return, it should be pointed out – as some commentators have – that there is unlikely to be any attack against Iran while the current round of talks between Iran and the so-called P5+1 alliance are still underway. It seems like every day I see a post somewhere discussing “lone wolf” survival plans. If you’re unaware of this term it simply means that you’re planning ride out a disaster scenario completely alone, without any sort of support or community to help you. Homeless people will be able to move into shipping containers in a former scrap metal yard in a bid to tackle a city’s housing shortage.

The converted containers will provide temporary homes for a period of five years for 36 men and women with a history of homelessness.

When I was a child, friends my age who were arrested before me said they “saw the stars at noon.” This was a saying we had. You can’t see the stars at noon when the sun is shining. But when children are under torture, especially when they are beaten in the head, they see a flash, even when they are blindfolded.
