With news of certain restaurants not allowing customers to bring their guns into restaurants (*cough, cough Panera*), it is always a pleasant surprise when businesses do just the opposite. As of a couple of weeks ago, Bergeron’s Restaurant in Port Allen, Louisiana is now offering a 10% discount to customers who carry a gun. Owner Kevin Cox said he began the discount by thanking law enforcement for coming into the restaurant and then he had the idea.   Continue reading “Local Louisiana Restaurant Offers Discount for Carrying a Gun”

Law enforcement plays no role in stopping the majority of “active shootings” in America, a new federal report shows.

Active shootings are defined as “an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area.” The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) says that 60% of the time, active shootings end before officers arrive on the scene. In 23% of the incidents studied, the shooter committed suicide before police responded and in 13% of the incidents, unarmed bystanders subdued the shooter. Return fire accounted for few of the resolutions; 3% ended with armed civilians returning fire and in 1% of the cases, armed off-duty law enforcement personnel killed the shooters.   Continue reading “60 Percent of “Active” Shootings in U.S. End Before Police Arrive”

It’s common for a delivery man not to be able to drop off a package – usually because no one is home. But in the wild world of Vancouver, Canada packages go undelivered for much more exotic reasons. Like bears.

A Canada Post delivery man left a note on a man’s property with a very reasonable explanation for why his package wasn’t at his door.   Continue reading “This Is A Perfectly Good Reason For Not Delivering A Package”

The US fanfare surrounding Washington’s bombing raid over Syria was immense. WIth all the hype, you’d have thought that it was a new Pearl Harbor.

With a risk of popping President Obama and the US State Department’s bubble, we need to ask: did the US bomb a load of empty buildings in Syria on Tuesday?

According CNN Middle East correspondent Arwa Damon (photo, above), residents from the town of Raqqa, in northeastern Syria had “mixed reactions to US strikes”. The reason given was a real shocker:    Continue reading “US Bombed ‘Empty Buildings’ in Airstrikes on ISIL in Syria”

marijuana greens lyme disease 263x164 Real Stories: Cannabis can Conquer Lyme DiseaseNatural Society – by Paul Fassa

Going through the medical system with Lyme disease is like being a ball in an old fashioned pinball game machine. The standard of care treatment of antibiotics and pharmaceuticals forever is risking serious adverse events, or at least reducing one’s immune system protections. But now at least one natural solution has surfaced for Lyme disease – marijuana.

The Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria (Lyme disease), whether from tick bites or not, are responsible for a disease that has spread worldwide after being first discovered in Lyme, Connecticut. The Borrelia bacteria are motile (capable of motion) spirochetes, heavily armored, and DNA equipped so they can worm their ways deeply into all sorts of tissue and resist antibiotics.   Continue reading “Real Stories: Cannabis can Conquer Lyme Disease”

The New American – by Jack Kenny

Americans have repeatedly been reassured that the counterterrorism offensive (or whatever it is that’s not a war) against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) or, if you prefer, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), will not be an American ground war. In the jargon of war planners, there will be no American “boots on the ground.”

But it has been acknowledged at both the White House and the Pentagon that there are already some 1,600 military service members on the ground in Iraq and we might reasonably assume they did not arrive barefoot. Perhaps their boots were made in China.   Continue reading “Don’t Look Now, But 1,600 (x2) U.S. “Boots on the Ground” in Iraq”

That translates to one out of every ten people. While stores such as Wal-Mart and even campaign ads such as those coming from Sen. Mark Udall (D-CO), cater to Spanish speakers, the study suggest feeding this improficiency could hurt economic growth.   Continue reading “One in Ten People Living in the United States Can’t Speak Fluent English”
