About 600 troops from the 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division are due to deploy in October to Poland and the Baltic states for training exercises with alliance members, replacing paratroopers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade, said spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Vanessa Hillman.

A Dairy Queen employee in Albuquerque, New Mexico had to use a concealed firearm to defend himself and his co-workers from an armed robber yesterday evening.

According to the Albuquerque Journal,

[BCSO spokesman Sgt. Aaron Williamson] said the man went to the Dairy Queen’s window with a gun and demanded money. The cashier gave him money and ducked behind the counter. The man then asked for more money. That’s when a different restaurant employee, “in fear of his own life,” fired at the robber, he said. The Vermont State Police say there is no evidence that drugs or alcohol were a factor in former FBI director Louis Freeh’s crashing his SUV in Barnard on Monday.

Initiative 594 is a “universal background check” initiative that would require background checks on private gun sales. Gun rights have been crushing federal court cases recently. Just last week a federal judge ordered the Department of Justice to turn over all documents related to the ATF’s Fast & Furious operation, and just yesterday a federal judge ruled that aspects of California’s 10 day waiting period were unconstitutional.

Today, we have yet another victory in Louisiana where a federal judge has ruled that a local Baton Rouge law banning firearms on the property of businesses that serve alcohol, even in the parking lot, is a violation of the Second Amendment.

A concealed carrier in Georgia is being heralded by police today after he opened fire on an armed robber. Police say the man’s actions likely lead to an arrest.

It all went down at a Gamestop store in Macon, GA. Tim Jackson, the concealed carrier, was there to buy a game for his son. Things went wrong when a man armed with a rifle that Jackson described as an “assault rifle” walked in and robbed the place.

 — Darlington County authorities say a burglary suspect was shot to death, and three others were hurt after a break-in at a home.

Area media outlets report Sheriff Wayne Byrd said two men broke into the home Friday, assaulted two women and hit a boy in the head with a gun.

Byrd said the homeowner, who was asleep in a back room, came out and exchanged gunfire with the intruders, one of whom killed the family dog before fleeing.
