It isn’t a fancy concoction, nor does it sell in the form of a capsule, promoted by a billion dollar pharmaceutical industry. It isn’t a rare herb or even some kind of strange fruit that you’ve never heard of, let alone seen. It is a common food you likely use when you cook, and that can grow easily in your back yard, or in a pot placed on a sunny patio.

Not only does this food lower cholesterol and reduce depression, it has shown remarkable effects in reducing cancerous tumors. The University of Maryland Medical Center calls a certain flavanol in this food “an important antioxidant to scavenge free radicals, and reduce inflammation in the body.” As you may already know, inflammation is directly linked with a ‘cancer-supporting’ environment in the body.   Continue reading “One of the Cheapest Cancer Fighters on the Planet”

A marijuana chemical known as cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD) helps fractures heal faster and even make the bones stronger than they were before, according to a study conducted by researchers from Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University and published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.

CBD has no psychotropic effects.

“We found that CBD alone makes bones stronger during healing, enhancing the maturation of the collagenous matrix, which provides the basis for new mineralization of bone tissue,” researcher Yankel Gabet said. “After being treated with CBD, the healed bone will be harder to break in the future.”   Continue reading “Marijuana helps heal broken bones, and even makes them stronger, scientists discover”

“When the preferences of economic elites and the stands of organized interest groups are controlled for, the preferences of the average American appear to have only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy.” Gilens & Page (2014)

Remember the two guys that did the study which proved America is a oligarchy? (Not that those of us paying attention really needed a study to verify that.)   Continue reading “This Study Proves Congress Literally Doesn’t Care What You Think”

This latest disease is not one that immediately comes to mind like TB and HIV/AIDS that we usually hear about.  BTW, American readers should know that even our “screened” refugees are permitted entry into the US with TB and HIV.   Continue reading “Europe’s refugees: Here come the infectious diseases”

A Fresno police officer shot at a fleeing suspect on Thursday, but missed and hit her own undercover cop car — and thankfully missed drivers traveling on a busy Fresno street.

The Chief of the Fresno police department, Jerry Dyer, said that just before 3 p.m. plain clothes officers with riot vests in unmarked cars pulled into the Taco Bell – no, they were not seeking revenge on employees who wrote “PIG” on a cops order – on Olive Avenue near Highway 99. Two officers approached three men standing in the Taco Bell parking lot.   Continue reading “Fresno, California – Cop Shoots at Fleeing Suspect, Misses and Hits Cop Car”

Campaign finance reform ain’t gonna cut it.

New SuperPAC rules have erased the limits on cash that donors can give to candidates, allowing the massive amounts of money to pile up even quicker.

Moreover, the political donations are very revealing. There is no doubt that the will of the people has been sidelined in favor of the biggest pockets.   Continue reading “2016 Selection: 1/3 of All Campaign Donations Funded by Just 60 Elite Individuals”

Predictive policing, an unproven and controversial data-mining method intended to anticipate the location and participants or victims in future crimes, is now an integral part of the largest police department in the United States. During a recent panel, New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton declared that predictive policing “is the wave of the future,” and that “the ‘Minority Report’ of 2002 is the reality of today.”

Bratton’s remarks, which are the most candid he has been about the department’s use of data mining, came during a discussion about Big Data, hosted by The New York Times, with editor Charles Duhigg and former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Margaret Hamburg.   Continue reading “NYPD to Launch Future Crime Unit”

Five months ago, a Saudi-led coalition of Gulf nations began a bombing campaign in Yemen. Late in July, the Anti-Media reported that Turkey joined the U.S. led coalition conducting airstrikes against the Islamic State (IS, ISIS, ISIL). Since then, it has become clear that Turkey’s strategy is part of a larger agreement with the U.S. to conduct a war against “extremism” in the region.

The deal between the U.S. and Turkey has the following contours: Turkey will allow the U.S. to use its military base at Incirlik to conduct airstrikes against the Islamic State. In exchange, the U.S. will allow Turkey to create a buffer zone on Syrian soil free of Islamic State and Kurdish fighters. The stated aim of the “safe zone” is to createa refuge for internally displaced Syrian civilians inside Syria.
