pesticides flowers toxic 263x164 Study: Pesticide Ingredients Far More Dangerous than ReportedNatural Society – by Elizabeth Renter

Pesticides have been shown time and time again to be toxic to humans, wildlife, and the ecosystem as a whole. This isn’t a news flash; it’s commonly accepted. As a new study to be found in BioMed Research International points out, pesticides are far more toxic than their makers and regulators would have us believe. The research indicates some of the ingredients within these poisons actually amplify the toxicity of the individual ingredients.   Continue reading “Study: Pesticide Ingredients Far More Dangerous than Reported”

study by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) associates a 5.7-magnitude earthquake in Oklahoma—the most powerful in the state’s history—with the practice of injecting wastewater from fracking into the earth’s crust.

The quake occurred on November 6, 2011, near Prague, Oklahoma. USGS scientists say it may have happened as a result of a 5.0-magnitude foreshock that happened on November 5 near some wastewater injection wells. The 5.0 quake increased stress at the site of the next day’s 5.7 quake.   Continue reading “U.S. Geological Survey Calls Oklahoma Quake the Largest “Human-Induced” Earthquake on Record”

As the armed men left the scene, suspicious bystanders could be heard yelling 'Blackwater! Blackwater!'Daily Mail – by DAMIEN GAYLE

Speculation was growing last night that American mercenaries had been deployed to Donetsk after videos emerged of unidentified armed men in the streets of the eastern Ukrainian city.

At least two videos published on YouTube earlier this week show burly, heavily armed soldiers with no insignia in the city, which has been gripped by pro-Moscow protests.   Continue reading “Has Blackwater been deployed to Ukraine?”

The FBI has launched an investigation of the Corrections Corporation of America over the company’s running of an Idaho prison with a reputation so violent that inmates dubbed it “Gladiator School.”

The Nashville, Tenn.-based CCA has operated Idaho’s largest prison for more than a decade, but last year, CCA officials acknowledged it had understaffed the Idaho Correctional Center by thousands of hours in violation of the state contract. CCA also said employees falsified reports to cover up the vacancies. The announcement came after an Associated Press investigation showed CCA sometimes listed guards as working 48 hours straight to meet minimum staffing requirements.   Continue reading “FBI Investigates Prison Company”

Troops in the trenches. From the book il capitano sepolto nei ghiacci (c.1918)The Telegraph – by Laura Spinney

At first glance Peio is a small alpine ski resort like many others in northern Italy. In winter it is popular with middle-class Italians as well as, increasingly, Russian tourists. In summer there’s good hiking in the Stelvio National Park. It has a spa, shops that sell a dozen different kinds of grappa, and, perhaps, aspirations to be the next Cortina. A cable car was inaugurated three years ago, and a multi-storey car park is under construction.

But in Peio, reminders of the region’s past are never far away. Stroll up through the village and, passing the tiny First World War museum on your left, you come to the 15th-century San Rocco church with its Austro-Hungarian cemetery and sign requesting massimo rispetto. Here, one sunny day last September, 500 people attended the funeral of two soldiers who fell in battle in May 1918.   Continue reading “Melting glaciers in northern Italy reveal corpses of WW1 soldiers”

John Williams: Gold Now, Russia-US Dollar and HyperinflationUSA Watchdog – by Greg Hunter

Economist John Williams says if Russia sells its U.S. dollar holdings, it could trigger hyperinflation.  Could it collapse the financial system?  Williams contends, “Yes, it certainly has a potential to do that.  Looking outside the United States, there is something over $16 trillion in cash, or near cash.  That’s about the same size as our GDP.  . . Nobody has wanted to hold the dollar for some time.  The dollar, fundamentally, is weak.  It couldn’t be weaker.  All the major factors are against it.  It’s just a matter of what would trigger the massive selling.  Nobody wants to hold it.  The Russians start selling, and you have China indicating a general alliance here in terms of what’s transpiring.  If the rest of the world believes this is what’s going to happen, people who have been wanting to get out of the dollar for some time very easily could front-run the Russians.  The scare is on.  People will try to get out of it as rapidly as they can.    Continue reading “Russian Dollar Dump Could Crash Financial System – John Williams”

Of Two Minds – by Charles Hugh Smith

Scrape away the media sensationalism and geopolitical posturing and it boils down to a simple dynamic: follow the energy.

Though many seem to believe that internal politics and geopolitical posturing in Ukraine are definitive dynamics, I tend to think the one that really counts is energy: not only who has it and who needs it, but where the consumers can get it from.

Let’s cut to the chase and declare a partition along long-standing linguistic and loyalty lines a done deal. Let’s also dispense with any notions that either side can impose a military solution in the other’s territory.   Continue reading “Ukraine: Follow the Energy”

Troops loyal to Moscow fired warning shots at unarmed Ukrainian soldiers protesting in the strategic Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea on Tuesday.

The pro-Russian troops, who had taken control of the Belbek air base, fired into the air as around 300 Ukrainian soldiers, who previously manned the airfield, demanded their jobs back.   Continue reading “Warning Shots Fired at Unarmed Ukraine Troops Who Want Jobs Back”

Readers:

We are having trouble today with the website. I do not know if it is problems caused by the typical incompetence of US business enterprises, including those who host websites and have offshored American jobs to foreign countries, or whether it is National Stasi Agency induced. Certainly, the propagandistic US government does not want any truth available to compete with Washington’s systematic lies. Continue reading “The end could be nearer than you think”

High flyers: A team of Hungarian scientists have managed to engineer the first 'flock' of drones that can fly as a coordinated group (pictured). The collection of 10 copters can fly in formation, follow a leader and change flight patterns without human inputDaily Mail – by SARAH GRIFFITHS

Flying robots that can ‘think’ for themselves are already being developed, which some people fear will be able to snoop on and attack people living below.

And now a team of Hungarian scientists have managed to engineer the first ‘flock’ of drones that can fly as a coordinated group.   Continue reading “The drones that flock like BIRDS: Robots fly in formation and navigate without being remotely controlled”

The American toll from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan can be contemplated in many different ways, thanks to the Congressional Research Service (CRS).

A new CRS report (pdf) has provided a human accounting not only of how many service personnel died in the two conflicts, but of the many kinds of serious, life-long injuries with which thousands returned home.    Continue reading “Leftovers from Afghanistan and Iraq Wars: 1,558 Amputations; 7,224 Severe Brain Injuries; 118,829 Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders”

In 1783 the Crimea was annexed by Catherine the Great, thereby satisfying the longstanding quest of the Russian Czars for a warm-water port. In fact, over the ages Sevastopol emerged as a great naval base at the strategic tip of the Crimean peninsula, where it became home to the mighty Black Sea Fleet of the Czars and then the commissars.   Continue reading “Memo to Obama: This Was Their Red Line!”

I can now confirm that the reason why the CIA could not locate its file on Noam Chomsky, despite the fact that the CIA had in fact maintained records on him, is that the CIA destroyed them and, unfortunately in my view, the destruction was authorized by the Archivist of the United States.

As background, in an earlier post “More CIA Records on Noam Chomsky the CIA Could Not Find” I analyzed some additional CIA records (see, e.g.,  here from 1967, herehere, and here from 1970, and here from 1971) showing that the CIA was documenting the activities of Noam Chomsky as part of the CIA’s CHAOS/MHCHAOS program. Importantly, those documents were located in the “Segregated Collection” of CIA records that were provided to the House Select Committee on Assassinations established in 1976 to investigate the assassinations of JFK and MLK, which are available in full-text search from the Mary Ferrell Foundation.    Continue reading “Confirmed: The CIA Destroyed Its Noam Chomsky File and Thousands More on Other U.S. Citizens”

Activist Post – by Joe Wright

Human rights activists have for decades been urging the U.S. government to prohibit the use of solitary confinement as a means of punishment.

First, it is important to note that articles such as this one invariably elicit a fair amount of comments that say something to the effect of, “Hey, like we should care about hardened criminals … what about the people and families they have destroyed? Screw ’em, lock ’em up and throw away the key. Let ’em rot.” I’ll admit to having that visceral reaction myself when reading about some of the most sadistic crimes one can imagine perpetrated upon another human being. However, this is only a limited view of the entire situation.   Continue reading “Is Solitary Confinement About to be Outlawed in the U.S.?”
