HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A woman shot and killed an armed intruder near Katy Monday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The 60-year-old woman told deputies two armed men entered her home through the open garage door around 11:30 a.m.

A calf born in Kerville, Texas has been given the name Genie, as she has a striking resemblance to Kiss frontman Gene Simmons.
The calf was born on July 28 and like Simmons, continues to stick her tongue out when posing for photos.

An Indiana doctor who would not prescribe opioids to a female patient was shot and killed Wednesday by the woman’s husband, who later killed himself, the South Bend Tribune reports.
Dr. Todd Graham, 56, was shot by Michael Jarvis of Mishawaka, St. Joseph County Prosecutor Ken Cotter told reporters Thursday.

WASHINGTON – Congressional Republicans and Democrats reached agreement Thursday on a $3.9 billion emergency spending package to fill a shortfall in the Department of Veterans Affairs’ program of private-sector care, seeking to avert a disruption to medical care for thousands of veterans.

An Indiana volunteer police lieutenant responding to a traffic accident was gunned down Thursday by one of the injured occupants of an overturned car, officials said.
The officer was identified as Lt. Aaron Allan, 38, a six-year veteran of the Southport Police Department who had 20 years of law enforcement experience. Allan was the department’s officer of the year in 2015 and was known by his nickname, “Teddy Bear,” The Washington Post reported. Clifford and Gary Koekoek, 84-year-old twins who’ve survived fighting in the jungles of Vietnam and ended up sleeping in their car after a bank foreclosed on their California home, say they’re “grateful” for the outpouring of support they’ve received since their story went national.
Born in the Netherlands, Clifford and Gary grew up under Nazi rule before coming to the U.S., where the brothers worked in Hollywood and then served their new country at war. But the brothers faced a new challenge in October, when they ended up sleeping in their car after a bank foreclosed on their California home. The US State Department has approved a potential foreign military sale for Patriot air defense systems, as well as supporting equipment and training to Romania, a Pentagon agency announced.
The possible sale of seven Patriot Configuration-3+ Modernized Fire Units, which include seven radar sets, 28 launching stations, and over 200 different type missiles among other equipment, was made public by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency this week.
