Billboard Music Awards host Kelly Clarkson demands ‘action’ after Texas school shooting

Fox News

Kelly Clarkson opened up the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night with a tribute to the eight students and two teachers who died on Friday in the mass shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas.

“I’m a Texas girl and my home state has had so much heartbreak over this past year,” an emotional Clarkson, the host of the show this year, told the audience.

The “American Idol” star said that “once again” the nation is “grieving for more kids that have died for just an absolute no reason at all” and said producers of the show asked her to prepare a “moment of silence” for those who were killed.

But Clarkson, choking up, said she’s “so sick of ‘moment of silence,'” which she said is “not working.”

“Why don’t we not do a ‘moment of silence,’ why don’t we do a ‘moment of action,'” she suggested.

She apologized for getting emotional.

To cheers, Clarkson said that the U.S. should “change what’s happening because it’s horrible, and mommas and daddies should be able to send their kids to school, to church, to movie theaters, to clubs — you should be able to live your life without that kind of fear.”

“I can’t imagine — I have four children — I cannot imagine getting that phone call or that knock on the door,” she told the audience, adding, “We need to do better.”

Clarkson, who’s also a judge on “The Voice,” said that while she wants to respect and honor the deceased and their loved ones, “let’s have a moment of action, let’s have a moment of change.”

  1. clarkson hasn’t choked on food or unholyweird kike drivel since she joined the d team. She’s right. It is a time for action. We’ve had enough, alright.

Shut yer damn pie hole and try it.

  2. Hey, Kelly, just sing your songs and don’t pipe in on the topic of our right to keep and bear arms. This action you propose will be in VIOLATION of my Bill of Rights. You have put yourself in the enemies camp, you do know this, right?

  3. Well, folks, this phony celeb has to do something to get her washed-up career back on track… Texas girl? Honey, I’M MORE TEXAS GIRL THAN YOU, and I was born in New York!

  4. These hysterical drama queens (both female and male) ought to do a little research and learn just how exceedingly unlikely it is for a child to be shot in school.

  5. Want some action, baby? Get yourself a red mini-skirt, high-heels, fishnet stockings, a low cut blouse, and stand on the street corner where you belong.

  6. I might take some heat for this, but… Going out on a limb here. I saw this as an appeasement announcement, attempting to spoon feed both sides of the debate. I heard the delivery and it came off as ambiguous; I kept waiting for her to drop the gun-grab bomb but it didn’t come. So we’re left with “Let’s have a moment of action; let’s have a moment of change,” which is nondescript/open to interpretation. In a perfect world she would have told what kind of “action” or “change” she was referring to.

I know all in the t.v. universe are corrupt, yet they reach and influence many people. In that regard I engage with some of what they float out there, just in the cause of countering it or exposing it. Clarkson sits as a judge on the show, “The Voice” next to Blake Shelton, a staunch supporter of Second Article, perhaps some of that rubbed off on her and her southern self, and what she really meant by “Action” is get everyone armed. I’m probably wrong, but just based on her words, I have to grant the benefit of the doubt. Yet most importantly, she needs to be pressed to qualify her remarks, though many know that’ll never happen. Still, I’d like to see her brought to task, grilled.

  7. “… while she wants to respect and honor the deceased and their loved ones, “let’s have a moment of action, let’s have a moment of change.”

It’s going to take a helluva lot longer than a moment.

And a whole sh#tload of guns & ammo, jewtoy.
