Prominent celebrities and leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus have endorsed a major nationalization of local police forces with an August 25 letter to President Obama, calling for creation of a federal police “czar” and greater federal controls over law enforcement in the wake of the Ferguson, Missouri, shooting and protests.

An experimental drug for Ebola known as ZMapp has failed, according to new reports, after a top Liberian doctor who was given the untested medication recently died. According to Lewis Brown, Liberia’s Information Minister, Dr. Abraham Borbor seemed to be improving after being given ZMapp but suddenly “took a turn for the worse,” calling into question the effectiveness of the experimental drug.

Borbor was among three Liberian doctors who were given ZMapp, which initially appeared to be working as intended. But the deputy chief medical doctor at the largest hospital in the country, the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, suddenly reversed course, passing just days after it appeared as though he would likely experience full recovery. A Colorado veteran says he was denied a ride on the Grand Valley Transit system because of his service dog.

Richard Palmer’s dog, Zipper, is a psychiatric service animal who helps him with post traumatic stress and a brain injury.

“He calms my nerves, so I don’t get anxiety in crowds of people,” Palmer told KJCT. “He keeps me focused and on track.”

NATO is reportedly working towards the creation of an expeditionary force composed of 10,000 troops from seven different member states as a result of escalating tensions with Russia over the conflict in Ukraine.

According to the Financial Times, the force’s creation will be spearheaded by Britain and involve contributions from Denmark, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Norway, and the Netherlands. Canada is also interested in joining the group, but it’s not known what its final decision will be.

Several of Mexico’s major drug cartels are pursuing an alliance, capital daily Reforma said Friday, citing unnamed intelligence sources.

The Juarez organization and Los Zetas are among the groups trying to create a “cartel of cartels,” the newspaper said in a front-page story.

The impetus to band together comes after each of the criminal outfits has experience significant setbacks, the sources told Reforma.

Senior figures from the Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel, the Juarez-based mob run by the Carrillo Fuentes family, Los Zetas and the Beltran Leyva cartel met in June in Piedras Negras, a city in the northern border state of Coahuila, according to the sources.    Continue reading “Mexican Cartels Considering Major Alliance”

The DOJ claims that the north Minneapolis town broke a federal law when it rejected the center in 2012.

“An injustice has been done,” U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger said on August 27. “I will not stand by while any religious group is subject to unconstitutional treatment that violates federal civil rights laws.”

The DOJ claims that the city violated the law when it refused the Abu Huraira Islamic Center the right to create an Islamic cultural center in the basement of the St. Anthony Business Center. In the final hours, they approved a ban on plastic grocery bags in the most populous U.S. state, a measure allowing guns to be temporarily removed from potentially violent people and campaign finance reforms spurred by a series of ethics scandals.

Hamden Police confirmed that a suspect was questioned in the case of a possible threat to President Barack Obama.

Lt. Kevin Samperi said that a car “believed to be involved in this case” was located sometime before midnight on Friday and that a suspect was questioned.

You can read all sorts of information online, like possible reasons for fast spreading in Africa including religious beliefs and rituals there where people handled bodies without proper knowledge, contributing to the fast spreading. They also say that lack of general knowledge about diseases, hygiene and eating bush meat along with lack of training of local medical professionals caused the mess. Over the last two years, the U.S. has had a spike in expatriations. It isn’t exactly Ellis Island in reverse, but it’s more than a dribble. With global tax reporting and FATCA, the list of the individuals who renounced is up. For 2013, there was a 221% increase, with record numbers of Americans renouncing. The Treasury Department is required to publish a quarterly list, but these numbers are under-stated, some say considerably.

The presence or absence of tax motivation is no longer relevant, but that could change. After Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin departed for Singapore, Senators Chuck Schumer and Bob Casey introduced a bill to double the exit tax to 30% for anyone leaving the U.S. for tax reasons. Southern Utah University, where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid went to school, is stripping his name from one of its buildings after the city where the college is located got $40,000 in pledges in five days from people who wanted his name to come down.

A Belgian feminist activist group LilithS literally painted Liege Airport red with a hundred liters of fake blood at the facility’s role in arming Israel. The red pool of ‘blood’ symbolized their perceived ‘slaughter’ of Palestinians in Gaza by Israel.

Six women took part in the protest at 11.30 am on Tuesday.
