The deaths of two Las Vegas cops on Sunday raised to 23 the number of law enforcement officers killed this year by gunfire across the country while in the line of duty — a 53 percent increase compared to the same time last year, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

A Salt Lake City police officer who was suspended over his objections to working the city’s notorious “gay pride” parade has resigned from his position, the police department said June 9. But the central issue in the entire episode appears to be a fabrication by police officials over the reason the unidentified officer was suspended from the department in the first place. An unidentified California man reportedly sidestepped federal law and shot himself to death after renting a gun at a shooting range, KTXL-TV reported on Wednesday.

The man acquired the gun early Wednesday afternoon at Guns, Fishing & Other Stuff, a shooting range in Vacaville. A source tipped me off last week to a curious occurrence: It seems that two planeloads of illegal aliens were recently shipped to Massachusetts. The first reportedly landed at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford. According to my tipster, approximately 160 illegal immigrants arrived on that flight and stayed nearly a week before being transferred to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) site and then released.

The second flight reportedly was diverted from Hanscom to Boston’s Logan Airport this past weekend. I am told that both Massachusetts and New Hampshire officials were on hand. A makeshift bomb exploded at a Nogales, Ariz., power plant Wednesday morning, damaging a large fuel tank and prompting an investigation by the FBI and federal bomb experts.

Local officials were alerted at 9:30 a.m. to “suspicious activity” at UniSource Energy Services’ Valencia Plant. The Senate has passed the Sanders-McCain Veterans Bill that will allow vets to go to private providers if they can’t get an appointment at a VA facility, and fund the building of 26 with only three Republicans voting no.

The Republican brigade of senators who claim that the bill is too expensive was led by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) who claimed that bill creates a new unlimited “entitlement for veterans.” He said that three years worth of spending on vets is too much, and he demanded that the Senate offset the cost with spending cuts. Sessions said that he can’t suggest to his colleagues that the budget violation in the bill be waived.
