The Great Recession

I mentioned in a recent article that the weird thing about this recession is that it is the only one in which personal income has gone up during a recession. That, of course, is because of government assistance, which is making it so we don’t have to feel the pain of a recession that the government, itself, caused — through its massive debt, tax breaks for the 1%, reliance on the Fed to solve government’s problems, and most currently through its forced economic shutdown as a response to COVID-19 — something that even the WHO now says was failed policy that should never have happened — even though they helped make sure it did happen! WASHINGTON — In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the defense industry began adjusting its facilities to avoid major outbreaks that could shut down production lines for days or weeks at a time. And now that those changes are in place, the U.S. Army’s top acquisition official thinks they should remain so for good.

Speaking to reporters during the Association of the U.S. Army’s annual conference, Bruce Jette, assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology, said he sees long-term benefits from maintaining the kind of social distancing protective measures put in place across industry.

A man was murdered for his political preferences, and it has scarcely attracted a peep from the national media – and even Republican politicians have been relatively quiet about it.

If Lee Keltner, the victim of the Denver shooting, was left-wing, gay, or an ethnic minority, this would not just have been front-page news for days – but there’d be riots, looting, and Al Sharpton getting on a private jet already. Statesville, NC — When parents send their children off to school everyday, they do so thinking that the school will protect them and take care of them while they learn. All too often, however, as frequent readers of TFTP know, school children become victims of the police state. As the video below illustrates, even a 7-year-old autistic child can fall prey to school cops playing their role in the school to prison pipeline.

A little boy was handcuffed and held face down on the floor for 40 minutes by the school resource officer. Now, because the Statesville Police department never held officer Michael Fattaleh accountable for his actions, the boy’s mother filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina. White House chief of staff Mark Meadows is leaning on the Pentagon to move ahead with a plan to stand up a 5G wireless network, sources tell Axios, and the idea, despite opposition from key government and private-sector players, could well outlive the Trump administration.

Why it matters: The Department of Defense could lease out capacity to wireless carriers and other companies in need of the ubiquitous, high-speed connectivity that 5G technology promises. That prospect makes this the Trump administration’s most serious push toward a federally backed national 5G network since it first floated the idea in 2018.  Continue reading “White House pushes Pentagon to jumpstart a national 5G network”

The Republican Jewish Coalition and the Democratic Majority for Israel are both airing ads in Florida claiming that their presidential candidate will do the most to help Israel. Both groups hope to swing the presidential election to their candidate in Florida, the nation’s most populous swing state, and in other contested states.

The Miami Herald reports that the pro-Trump ad is “funded by the RJC Victory Fund, a political arm of the Republican Jewish Coalition. The RJC says it will spend $3.5 million on the ads, part of a broader $10 million pledge the organization made in August to help Trump win over Jewish voters in battleground states.” Continue reading “Pro-Israel groups air ads for Trump & Biden”
