MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell appeared on Newsmax Tuesday afternoon for an interview about being kicked off Twitter. What followed, to paraphrase the tagline for Lindell’s company, cannot be advertised as the “most comfortable” interview you’ll ever watch.

Lindell, a self-made entrepreneur who has managed to position himself as a surrogate for former President Donald Trump’s attempts to overthrow the results of the election, hijacked the interview on the upstart conservative network to push his debunked conspiracy theories about the Dominion voting machines used in a number of states. All wireless and/or “Smart” technology is vulnerable to hacking (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and other significant mishaps (see 1, 2).  Serious warnings about Internet of Things (IoT) technology’s high failure rate and enormous vulnerability to hackers have been ongoing for years.  Last August, IBM warned about a security flaw in millions of IoT devices including “Smart” Meters and medical implants.

In December, President Trump signed IoT Cybersecurity Improvement Act of 2020 to create standards and guidelines on the use and management of IoT devices by federal agencies. Saturday, January 30, 2021, we published the story of how a community of people in Vancouver, Washington, came together to demand that Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital allow an elderly woman who was being held against her will be allowed to have her daughter, who is also her advocate, caregiver, and power of attorney, come into the hospital to be with her mother.

The people who had gathered also had requested that the Clark County Sheriff department come to the hospital to be a witness and stand up for patient rights.
