Washington Post – by Paul Kane

The partisan battles that have paralyzed Washington in recent years took a historic turn Thursday, as Senate Democrats eliminated filibusters for most presidential nominations, severely curtailing the political leverage of the Republican minority in the Senate and assuring an escalation of partisan warfare.

Saying that “enough is enough,” President Obama welcomed the end of what he called the abuse of the Senate’s advise and consent function, which he said had turned into “a reckless and relentless tool” to grind the gears of government to a halt.   Continue reading “Reid, Democrats trigger ‘nuclear’ option; eliminate most filibusters on nominees”

Michael BloombergReason – by J.D. Tuccille

I don’t know what holiday dinners are like at Michael Bloomberg’s house, but I suspect there’s an awful lot of picking at food while the windbag at the head of the table lectures the assembled guests about why he’s right and they’re all idiots. That’s the message I get from his pet Mayors Against Illegal Guns organization, which wants its loyal minions, if there are any, to sit down to their Thanksgiving feasts and immediately start fights with relatives they haven’t seen in a year about gun control. All you need is a handy list of tendentious talking points—and a shitload of patience from Cousin Bob, who rebuilds old pistols for fun and just wrapped himself around half a bottle of Jack Daniels.   Continue reading “Bloomberg Group Wants You To Start Fights About Gun Control at Thanksgiving”

Up in smoke. (Getty Images)The New York Observer – by Drew Grant

As someone in the office just put it: “You can die for your country, but you can’t smoke a cigarette.” That line, usually just applicable to drinking throughout the United States, will soon apply to anyone between the ages of 18 and 20 trying to buy tobacco productsin New York City.  Today, Mayor Bloomberg signed a new law (passed by City Council earlier this year) that means in 180 days it will no longer be legal for high school seniors to use time-honored traditions to look cool at parties where there are college kids.   Continue reading “Smoke ‘Em While You Got ‘Em: NYC Becomes First City/State to Raise Smoking Age to 21”

Security Pros – by Lisa Vaas

Four cyber security experts have delivered to the US Congress a unanimous opinion: Americans shouldn’t use HealthCare.gov, given its security issues.

David Kennedy, CEO of information security firm TrustedSEC and former CSO of Diebold, was one of those who testified on Tuesday before a House Science, Space, and Technology committee hearing on security concerns surrounding the woebegone, very large attack target that is the government’s new healthcare website.   Continue reading “Security pros: If Healthcare.gov hasn’t been hacked already, it will be soon”

Liberty Blitzkrieg – by Mike

Well if this isn’t one of the more ridiculous things I have read in a while, I don’t know what is. Many of my readers are probably familiar with Mike “Mish” Shedlock, who writes a very popular economics/finance blog. He has a habit of doing what I like best, challenging propaganda, engaging in critical thought and a fearlessness when it comes to saying what he believes. It appears that such behavior is frowned upon by French banksters and their minions in government.   Continue reading “Blogger “Mish” is Fined 8,000 Euros by France for Freedom of Speech”

A new island has appeared in the Pacific. A submarine eruption just off Nishino-Shima Island Japan has erupted for the first time in 40 years. The Japanese Navy noticed the explosions as boiling lava met sea water giving rise to plumes of steam and ash.

Almost 7,000 miles away in Mexico, the Colima volcano blew its top after a period of relative calm. A steam and ash cloud rose two miles into the sky and the grumbling of the mountain could be heard in towns a few miles away.   Continue reading “Seven Volcanoes In Six Different Countries All Start Erupting Within Hours Of Each Other”
