The rapid explosion of mystery virus EV-D68 is sending hundreds of children to hospitals across Missouri, Colorado, Kansas, Utah and eight other states. “In Kansas City, about 475 children were recently treated at Children’s Mercy Hospital, and at least 60 of them received intensive hospitalization,” reports CNN. (1)
CNN goes on to report:
“It’s worse in terms of scope of critically ill children who require intensive care. I would call it unprecedented. I’ve practiced for 30 years in pediatrics, and I’ve never seen anything quite like this,” said Dr. Mary Anne Jackson, the hospital’s division director for infectious diseases. Are people waking up?
Did you vote today LOL? Primary day belongs to the tumbleweeds, who will once again vote for the same old corporate cactus to lead us into the sunset. Last year just 700,000 New York City voters decided to participate in democracy on primary day. And out of all voters registered Democrat or Republican, only 20% bothered to vote in the primary. Here’s a sobering look at how apathetic the electorate has become, as seen from polling places in NYC today: Continue reading “The Sad Deserted Polling Places Of NYC”

Researchers indeed continue to develop vaccines for tropical, mosquito-vectored diseases like dengue fever, which affects 50 million people per year.
There are no commercially available vaccines for the virus – yet. But, they’ve run into a big problem.
Researchers watching vaccine development caution that there will be initial disease spikes with its use. There’s no argument about this observation. In fact, it’s admitted. Continue reading “Researchers Offer Strange Answer to Anticipated Dengue Spikes Following Vaccine”
Here’s my recommendation for your end-of-summer food preservation.
You need 100 pounds of tomatoes.
100 pounds? Are you insane, Daisy?
Yes – 100 pounds, and more if you can get them. No other item of produce increases in nutrients when cooked and stored like tomatoes. Canning them is like loading your shelves with vitamins. These vitamins have the delicious bonus of providing tasty meals throughout the winter, when fresh fruits and veggies are expensive (and scarce for many of us if you prefer to consume foods grown close to home.) I got most of my tomatoes from local friends who had an over-abundance, so I didn’t pay a lot for them. You can often find tomatoes by the bushel for $1-2 per pound at your local farmer’s market. (Find a farm or market near you at Eat Local Grown.) Continue reading “5 Reasons Why You Need 100 Pounds of Tomatoes”
Look at the cost to live in a tent $ 1,040 per month, WTF!! I don’t have that kind of cash.
Oscala, Florida has proposed a sanctioned homeless camp modeled after Pinellas Hope, just over 100 miles south in Pinellas County. But the proposed Open Arms Village has faced significant opposition.
Pinellas Hope, managed by Catholic Charities, was established after an impromptu tent city was slashed to the ground in downtown St. Petersburg. The site is several miles out of town at the end of an industrial road. While it is the only legal tent city in the U.S. not along the West Coast, it has largely be portrayed as an attempt to rid the city of the homeless. Continue reading “Florida’s Tent City Geography”

Bothered by gadgets like Google Glass that can, theoretically, be used to snoop on you in public? Then why not get your own gadget that can knock them all offline?
That’s what the creators of Cyborg Unplug promise. Billed as a “wireless anti-surveillance system,” Unplug is, essentially, a portable router that can detect drones, surveillance cameras and mobile tech like Glass trying to access your Wi-Fi signal and boot them off of it. LYNN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) — Lynn is a municipality on the brink. Key department officials say a recent influx of illegal immigrant children and families in the city is stressing almost every service from trash collection to healthcare.

VILLA PANCHO, Texas — The actions of a group of volunteers looking to help secure the border appears to have angered the Gulf Cartel.
The letters CDG which stand for Cartel Del Golfo or Gulf Cartel were scrawled along various points on the border fence just yards from where the group of volunteers set up camp on occasion. While local media outlets have called the group a militia, group spokesman K.C. Massey was quick to say they were not a militia, they do not have a command structure, they do not have uniforms or insignias but they are simply volunteers.
