MIAMI (AP) — Cuban opposition leaders from the island joined Cuban American politicians and activists on Saturday, pledging to oppose President Barack Obama’s plan to normalize relations with the communist nation and disputing the notion that their community is split by a generational divide.

“The opposition will continue fighting, with or without Barack Obama,” Cuban activist Jorge Luis Garcia Perez, known by his nickname “Antunez,” said to cheers. The gathering at a Little Havana park drew more than 200 people, largely older Cuban exiles who chanted “Obama, traitor!” and waved U.S. and Cuban flags. The trial of a former Julius Baer (BAER.VX) banker accused of breaching Swiss banking secrecy laws by handing over confidential data about offshore clients to WikiLeaks was halted on Wednesday after the defendant collapsed.

Rudolf Elmer, a former senior executive at Baer’s Cayman Islands’ office, fainted outside the courtroom in Zurich after earlier complaining of a headache. A fierce firefight just south of the Texas border resulted in the death of two gunmen as well as a considerable amount of property damage. A third gunman also died in a recent shootout.

Eight operatives of a Mexican drug cartel were sentenced to U.S. federal prison for their role in running a Methamphetamine distribution ring in Atlanta, Georgia.

Court records don’t specify which drug cartel the group belonged to, but most of the members were Mexican nationals. A member of the violent MS-13 gang was captured approximately 90 miles into Texas after illegally crossing the porous U.S. border with Mexico. The arrest was made by a volunteer reserve deputy working together with U.S. Border Patrol agents. BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) – A mass of demonstrators chanting, “Black lives matter,” converged in the Mall of America rotunda Saturday as part of a protest against police brutality that caused part of the mall to shut down on a busy day for holiday shopping.

The group Black Lives Matter Minneapolis had more than 3,000 people confirm on Facebook that they would attend. Official crowd estimates weren’t immediately available, but pictures posted to social media by local news organizations showed the rotunda was full. WILLOW CREEK, Calif. (AP) — A California Highway Patrol officer shot and killed a 17-year-old who attacked him with a machete, and the officer was hospitalized with major injuries, officials said.

Two uniformed NYPD officers were shot dead Saturday afternoon as they sat in their marked police car on a Brooklyn street corner — in what investigators believe was a crazed gunman’s execution-style mission to avenge Eric Garner and Michael Brown.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Demonstrators gathered at City Hall in support of the NYPD Friday evening, but they were met right away with a rival demonstration by critics of police policies.

A pro-police rally organized by a Facebook group called “Thank You NYPD” was held as a counterpoint to the recent protests against police brutality. Shawali Khan, Khi Ali Gul, Abdul Ghani and Mohammed Zahir were repatriated after a thorough review of their cases.
