Since when does the Department of Justice coordinate with an obviously liberal media organization to go after a conservative reporter? It’s official: At least since 2011.
In email exchanges obtained by The Daily Caller in two separate FOIA requests, a coordinated effort to slam Breitbart News reporter Matthew Boyleemerged. To be sure, Boyle is not a reporter who is beloved by other reporters and he’s been critiqued on any number of matters that include his youthful chipmunk cheeks, his previously questionable Twitter avatar and his TV skills. But his beat was DOJ and Eric Holder and shouldn’t a reporter be commended for going after an enterprising story or two on his beat? Billionaire investor Warren Buffett on Thursday again defended Burger King’s purchase of Canadian chain Tim Hortons, a deal criticized by many as an inversion plan by the fast food company to avoid paying U.S. taxes.

The Obama administration has “widened the loopholes” that Islamic State and other extremist fighters could use to enter the United States, a leading union of immigration officials says.

HOUSTON, Texas — During just one month, Border Patrol agents in Texas’ Del Rio Sector arrested five convicted sex offenders in the U.S. illegally. Each of the five offenders has been charged with illegal re-entry, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

HOUSTON, Texas — Plans to shut down ports of entry between the United States and Mexico by a citizen protest group are being finalized. The list of ports includes six Texas ports, four in Arizona, two in New Mexico and five in California. Organizers say this is the final list and plan to move forward on all ports listed.
“This event is for Patriotic Americans who feel strongly about our nation’s sovereignty and bringing our Marine, Sgt. Tahmooressi, home,” said event organizer Stasyi Barth in a statement posted on the groups website. Sgt. Tahmooressi is being held in a Mexican jail for allegedly entering Mexico with weapons that are illegal in that country. He claims the entry was accidental. HOUSTON, Texas — The family of the U.S. Marine being held in a Mexican jail for entering Mexico with firearms has denounced the “Shut Down All Ports of Entry” protest planned for this weekend. Event organizers are listing support for Marine Sergeant Andrew Tahmooressi as one of the main reasons for this action to shut down the ports of entry between the United States and Mexico. Sgt. But instead of eager young applicants, Mr. Z. encountered University of New Mexico alumnus Andy Beale and student Sean Potter, who took the rare opportunity of being in the room with a genuine NSA agent to ask him about his employer’s illegal collection of metadata on all Americans. Mr. Z. did not like that one bit.

SUNBURY, Pa. (AP) — A newlywed couple whose Craigslist ad lured a stranger to his death were sentenced Thursday to life in prison without parole by a judge who said their “permanent removal” from society is appropriate.
Neither 19-year-old Miranda Barbour nor her 22-year-old husband, Elytte, displayed emotion as they sat with their lawyers in the courtroom while some of the victim’s relatives described the grief and pain they have experience since the Nov. 11 murder. A New York City police officer has been suspended after a video surfaced of a street fair altercation in Sunset Park, according to an Associated Press report.
NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said that the officer in question has been stripped of his gun and badge pending an investigation in a case of alleged excessive police force in Sunset Park on Sunday, according to The AP.
“Bratton said the fair was supposed to end at 6 p.m. but it was still going a half hour later,” The AP reported. “Officers tried to clear the street for traffic.” When the vendors resisted leaving right away, the police seemingly got handsy. An NYPD helicopter 800 feet in the air had a near-miss with a drone as the cops searched for a missing teenage boy in Brooklyn early Wednesday, law enforcement sources told The Post.
Just before 1 a.m., the chopper was hovering over 1240 Greene Ave. in Bushwick when it was forced to suddenly change course because of the drone, sources said.

LAWTON — It was Daniel Martin Jr. who called 911 the day he died, to report vandals in his driveway. The decorated Army veteran’s voice is frenzied and at one point, the dispatcher tells him to calm down.
“They’re still at my front door,” he said.
The dispatcher asks if the vandals have a firearm, and Martin says he can’t tell. “But I have one,” he adds. “I’m inside with my weapon.”
A female dispatcher relayed that to responding officers. But when Martin opened his front door for the police, someone shouted “gun,” and Lawton police officers Elijah Garcia and Anthony Edwards fired multiple rounds, killing Martin, 47. Last month, the city passed a new “trespassing ordinance” that bans a variety of behaviors, including hostile language, not enough clothes covering the body and bodily hygiene or scent in public places including parks, the King County Library, even Burien City Hall. CLAYTON, MO. — Officers shot and killed a man after he allegedly pointed a rifle at them in suburban St. Louis, the second fatal police shooting of a black suspect in the region since the August shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson.
Two officers fired a combined 25 shots at the suspect Wednesday night after a chase in which the 42-year-old man slammed his vehicle into a police car and then fled on foot into a construction area, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said. Following revelations that the NSA, in cooperation with various telecom companies, was spying on private communications, Apple Inc. has released new technology that it says cannot be compromised by the police.
In an effort to protect the private communications of iPhone and iPad users, Apple said on Wednesday its latest mobile operating system, the iOS8, has built-in encryption features that does not allow anybody – even police with search warrants – from accessing data stored on handheld devices. The United States’ top intelligence official said Thursday that he’s disappointed to continuously have his integrity disputed over an unsound remark he made before Congress more than a year ago concerning the National Security Agency’s spy tactics.

The Satanic Temple of New York City has been granted permission to pass out its literature to students in public schools in the Orlando, Florida, area after district officials declined to prohibit distribution of religious materials.
So will there now be a huge new interest among students in the pentagram, the goats-head emblem and devilish rituals?
Maybe not, according to one columnist.
