The lethargic performance of the U.S. economy going back decades and plunging into an embedded depression, since the financial meltdown of 2007, has caused permanent damage. The business community and the financial press have yet to acknowledge that prospects are not going to improve. It does not take a commercial genius or an academic professor to look around at the shrinking middle class and conclude that the lessons of the preverbal business cycle no longer apply. In order for any economy to prosper, the fruits of commerce must improve the financial conditions of the producing contributors.   Continue reading “Replace the Business Cycle with Permanent Poverty”

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) —The American financial system is at risk.

That’s the message from the International Monetary Fund, which on Tuesday released its first check-up on the U.S. financial system since 2010.

The IMF believes the U.S. is safer than it was before the financial crisis. However, new threats to the system — like big banks that have grown even bigger — have formed over the past few years and efforts to safeguard the system have not been finished.   Continue reading “IMF warns US: Your financial system is (still) vulnerable”

It’s a hot summer for the gun industry.

Background checks for gun sales spiked 11% in June compared to last year, making it the busiest June ever, according to the FBI’s background check data.

Last month the FBI conducted nearly 1.53 million background checks, which are required for all in-store purchases, but not for sales at gun shows or between individuals. That’s the highest volume of checks in June since 1999, when the FBI started keeping track.   Continue reading “Gun sales spike in June”

Former CNN anchor Lynne Russell and former reporter Chuck de Caro came back into the news cycle on June 30, after they worked together to use a concealed firearm to defend themselves from a robber. Russell later spoke about how having a gun “absolutely” saved their lives, and had some tough words for those who do not own guns, yet advocate for government control.

“If you don’t want to carry, please don’t.” Russell said. “Then, shut the f–k up about it. Make your own decisions.“   Continue reading “Former CNN Anchor Tells Gun Control Activists to ‘Shut the F*ck Up’”

A six-time-deported illegal immigrant is charged in the felony hit-and-run of an Arizona mother and her two young children. The man allegedly admitted to being high on marijuana while causing the severe lacerations to a five-year-old boy. The five-year-old and a two-year-old were both taken to an area hospital.

This tragedy comes within one week of two separate incidents involving previously deported illegal immigrants allegedly murdering women in two U.S. states: California and Texas. The California case involved a young woman in San Fransisco taking photos with her father on a pier when an illegal immigrant who had been deported five time prior allegedly murdered her. The Texas case involved an illegal immigrant who had been deported four time prior. Israeli politicians have voted to continue work on a bill to allow hunger-striking Palestinian prisoners to be force-fed. Opponents argue it’s meant to silence convicts through torture similar to the force-feeding in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay.

The vote passed with a small majority Monday night at the Knesset plenum. The controversial bill, which could be soon fast-tracked into law, would allow prisons to seek official permission to force-feed a prisoner if a doctor advises there is a grave risk to the prisoner’s health.   Continue reading “Israel a step closer to Guantanamo-style force-feeding of hunger-striking prisoners”

During a recent appearance with CNN’s The Lead With Jake Tapper, Democrat presidential contender Bernie Sanders said gun manufacturers should be no more liable for the misuse of their product following a theft than a hammer company would be.

He said this in response to Tapper’s question about Sanders’s vote for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA). That act protects gun manufacturers from lawsuits tied to the misuse of their products. It was signed into law by President George W. Bush in October 2005.   Continue reading “Bernie Sanders: Gun Companies No More Liable Than Hammer Companies for Misuse of Product”
