An outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in New York – largest in the city’s history – has left at least 12 people dead and health officials scrambling to contain the deadly bacteria.
More than 100 cases have been reported in the South Bronx, one of the city’s poorest neighbourhoods.

One out of four Americans will develop cancer in their lifetime. More than 350,000 people die every year from cancer in this country. And the sad truth is, it is entirely preventable, due to one simple fact: GREED.
For hundreds of years, British sailors died by the thousands every year from scurvy. Physicians were completely baffled by this dread disease. They believed it was caused by a virus or bacteria of some type. It wasn’t until 1747 that John Lind, a surgeon’s mate in the British Navy found that citrus fruits (lemons, oranges) could counteract the effects of scurvy, but his recommendations would not be implemented for another forty eight years, thus finally ending the scourge of this disease. The Chicago Police’s CIA-style black site, Homan Square, has seen more people detained than died on 9/11 or imprisoned at Guantanamo, according to a new report by the Guardian. The newspaper, which sued the Chicago police to obtain further details on Homan Square, reports overwhelming targeting of minorities as well as other sordid and violative policies.
From 2004 to 2015, at least 3,500 people were detained at Homan Square. These records do not cover the full span of the facility’s tenure, as it has been open since 1995. Israel has released all suspects held in connection with the firebombing of a Palestinian home that killed an 18-month-old baby and his father.
An Israeli official said on Monday that all the suspects arrested on Sunday were freed, but did not provide further details, including their number.

This week the Seattle City Council moved one step closer to imposing a sweeping sales tax on both weapons and ammunition which appears to fly in the face of a thirty year old state law banning such restrictions. A committee vote took place on Wednesday and the proposal will move to a full vote tomorrow. And this is just a bad deal all the way around. The house is located in a relatively secluded cul-de-sac that doesn’t see a lot of through traffic. Without hesitation, the son went upstairs and got his father’s handgun. CLAYTON, MO – Several people were shot in Ferguson Sunday night after a peaceful march to mark the anniversary of Michael Brown’s death. Two people were shot in a drive-by shooting and one opened fire on police officers. Police returned fire, critically injuring the suspect. Now, St. Louis County officials are declaring a State of Emergency.
Organizers are calling today “Moral Monday.” It is a day of planned civil disobedience. They have more events planned for the remainder of the day.
