Newly elected president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, has claimed that the US “defeat” and its withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan may represent a chance for war-torn Afghanistan to revive itself and find peace.
Ultraconservative Raisi commented on Monday that “the military defeat and the US withdrawal from Afghanistan should offer an opportunity to restore life, security and lasting peace in that country.”

Chinese, Iranian, and to some degree Russian media are reacting with glee over humiliating scenes of America’s exit plans in chaos coming out of Kabul Sunday into Monday.
Perhaps as expected, Chinese state-run Global Times featured it’s most prominent headline Monday with the words “Taliban’s rapid victory embarrasses US, smashes image, arrogance.” Alternately Beijing is claiming to “respect” Afghans’ choice – as the same article reads. “The Russian Embassy in Kabul continues to function as usual. MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov said he intended to travel with representatives of the Taliban movement* through Kabul to make sure that the city is safe.

The Taliban has started rounding up weapons belonging to civilians and those in the security profession, as the militant group firms up its control over the Afghan capital and thousands flee.
On Monday, the Taliban started entering premises around the captured Afghan capital of Kabul and began seizing weapons. A representative of the militant group said that people no longer needed to keep weapons for safety, confirming that it had started collecting firearms.
