“He pointed me in the right direction:” Dog leads officer to his owner, slumped over in chair

GERMANTOWN (WITI) — Thanks to man’s best friend and some quick police work, a Germantown woman is alive.

Early Friday morning, February 13th, John Boy, a black labrador, was found running around the Autumn Ridge neighborhood off of County Line Rd. in Germantown.

“He stood there and barked a little bit, then I rolled down my window and called to him. Then he wagged his tail and got more friendly until I got out of my car. And then he ran a little bit,” said Jeff Gonzalez of the Germantown Police Department.

John Boy had a plan for the officer.

“In a roundabout way, yeah, he sure did. He pointed me in the right direction,” said Gonzalez.

John Boy led the officer up the street to a house where his owner, Krystal, was unresponsive — slumped over in a chair outside her front door, still in her pajamas.

“To be honest with you, I thought she was dead. And when I went up, she was very cold to the touch; her lips were blue. But I was able to determine she was breathing and had a pulse. I called for assistance and my partner was close. So together we got her in the house,” said Gonzalez.

Minutes later, Krystal’s daughter and sister received the emotional call.

“Basically what he told me was, he said that they thought that she was dead. So it’s hard,” said Tianne Wendt, Krystal’s daughter.

Krystal does have a heart condition. She remains in the hospital where doctors are running tests. But her daughter tells FOX6 News she’s stable and looking forward to meeting Officer Gonzalez when she gets home.

As for John Boy, he was adopted and returned three times by different families before ending up at Krystal’s home. Her daughter says it was meant to be.

  1. I was a cop for 30 years 15 of which were in homicide. I love dogs and never shot one although one Rottweiler did bite my hand causing a puncture wound. The dog sat after biting me and turned out to be a bit blind and a very nice dog. A quick squeeze of some hand sanitizer into the wound worked. The dog’s owner feared I would sue and couldn’t believe it when I told him I would never sue and I wouldn’t even write a report or notify animal control. I did have to spray a pack of wild dogs with some pepper spray in the ghetto once. I was the type who wrote only a few tickets when drivers almost caused collisions. I gave thousands of warnings and drove many drunk drivers home returning their keys the next day. My philosophy was that I worked for the tax payers who pay for my pension. Now I volunteer for my community five days a week as a way of working for my taxpayer funded income.

The only shooting I was involved in was a crazy “youth” with a 25 auto who just shot his girlfriend. He pointed the gun at me and it misfired as my round hit him in the chest right on a huge thick metal cross, which stopped the bullet and his ill intentions. He cleaned up his act after serving 5 years in prison and now is a youth counselor.

There was only one other officer similar to me on the department of 200+ and he just retired. He and I were a very rare breed who went so far as to help old ladies cross the street and changing light bulbs and watering the plants of the elderly who were too weak and to knife threats with our hands or mace rather than bullets.

    1. I’m sorry you’re retired, Ed, but getting old is a blessing. (the only alternative is dying young)

They’d probably never hire you as a cop today. There’s a whole different breed of miscreants wearing badges now, and you sound like a decent guy who should probably deny that he ever was a cop because angry mobs don’t discriminate, and they won’t look into your history.

Cops will soon be suffering the wrath of an angry population, and it’s not going to be pretty.

    2. Old Ed, I knew several Leo’s of your stature back in the day when I was running wild. I still remember them, and how they always did the honorable thing, rather than being a hot dog. You are to be proud of being a stand up guy in your community. God bless you sir.

  2. I was waiting for the rest of the story. “He pointed me in the right direction… then I shot him because I feared for my life… then shot the owner for resisting arrest.” It’s a miracle they were not killed.

Well I guess there is one cop out there who doesn’t mind letting dogs live…who woulda thunk it?

  4. Yea, like this one story is supposed to make me forget about everything those pigs have done to We the People. Screw ’em! 😡

This seems more like a publicity stunt for the pigs. Whether it is or not, the pigs can kiss my ass.

  5. This article is probably fiction. That dog would have been shot, and his owner left to die without that pig ever getting off his fat, doughnut-stuffed ass.

It sounds nice, and it’s refreshing to hear, and that’s why it was published, but I would verify the facts independently before I believed a word of it.

  6. @ Old Ed: Thank you Ed, for your past serving and protecting. I remember several in my area that were the honest type of officer such as yourself. Unfortunately I’m not sure if any can be found any where in the country anymore. It’s like the great movie stars of the past…. Not many James Stewarts, John Waynes or Walter Brennans around anymore.
