Koch Brothers Look West, Set Sights on Mining the Grand Canyon

Tax forms reveal that the controversial billionaire Koch brothers are throwing money into an effort to stop conservation efforts in the Grand Canyon.

Amid rumors that Charles and David Koch will be withdrawing their presence at the Republican National Convention, it has been revealed the billionaires have been funneling money into an Arizona-based group fighting a plan to ban uranium mining around the Grand Canyon, which would also protect 1.7 million acres of land.

The proposal is supported by 80% of Arizona residents, environmental groups, and native tribes, the Guardian reports. Yet, Greg Zimmerman of the Center for Western Priorities has found that a non-profit group, the Prosper Foundation, is fighting to block the move. The group received 83% of their total budget, over $1.5 million, from an organization called American Encore.

Zimmerman, digging deeper, found that American Encore is run by one Sean Noble, a man with very close ties to the Koch brothers. A donor from a Koch brothers’ “dark money” funding network has also channeled cash to the group.

“Prosper, which was formed in 2013, covers nearly its entire budget with funds from Koch-backed American Encore—formerly known as the Center to Protect Patient Rights. According to tax filings, American Encore has funded 83 percent of Prosper Inc.’s total budget since its creation, donating over $1.5 million to the organization in 2013 and 2014,” Zimmerman wrote for ThinkProgress.

Proponents of the ban observe that uranium mining has been proven to cause cancer in those working the mines, as well as in Native Americans, whose water is contaminated by the process.“I wish I could say I was surprised by this, but honestly I wasn’t,” Zimmerman told the Guardian. “We know that these anti-public land efforts have a lot of money behind them.”

“It’s not surprising to learn that the Koch brothers and other wealthy, ultra-conservative industrialists are funding these efforts to roll back conservation measures across the American west.”

Arizona Republicans such as Governor Doug Ducey, Senator John McCain, Senator Jeff Flake, and Congressman Paul Gosar have also been fighting to sell the land for mining, claiming that the measure to protect natural resources will kill jobs and stifle development.

  1. Washington DC, home of the best bought politicians in the world. In the new Americka, if the price is right, everything is for sale!

  2. Like Henry said, those F’N Koch brothers are gonna swing in the breeze before all is said and done. F’N traitors they are, they’d sell their mother for a buck. Low-life Richie Rich boys, I’d prefer beheading.

  3. There’s been rumor circulating for a long time that the canyon area was a host to a very ancient civilization. The local natives support this belief. Hopi are supposedly descendents of indians/asians who first settled the area.
They tell a story of living under ground until a fight broke out and they went to the surface.

Who named these monuments in the grand canyon?
Some of the highest peaks have egyptian names like:
Tower of seth, isis temple, cheops pyramid, tower of ra, osiris temple, horus temple. (Freemasons love egyptian themes.)

There’s also the buddha cloister, buddha temple, manu temple shiva temple, zoroaster temple as well. And not one named for christianity in a nation supposedly founded on christianity that sure seems strange?

Well, surprise, surprise, these places where the strange names are given are off-limits to tourists and park personnel. Supposedly because they contain ‘dangerous’ caves.

It’s also been surmised the highest named peaks also align to the orion star constellation.Temple of isis has a cave/tunnel entrance sealed to the public. (and there are others) Some who have seen the entrances suggest they’re man-made.

And there’s the story in 1909 of g.e.kincaid who supposedly found a cave, with tunnels and ancient artifacts. This was supposedly covered up by the smithsonian.

Well, f nothing else, these links are entertaining:

Forbidden archeology is also an interesting read:

I wonder if Koch and their zio/freemason travel partners have discovered something there and are using mining as a cover or are they just greedy and want to exploit the land?
