North Carolina Passes Bill Protecting Drivers From Street-Blocking Protesters

The Federalist Papers – by Kimberly Morin

You’ve seen the morons blocking roads and highways, sometimes even chaining themselves across major outlets. They have caused massive issues, including with people who need to get to the hospital.

Sometimes some of these idiots have been hit by vehicles that try to get through but cannot. Of course, the drivers are then in fear for their lives if they keep moving.

North Carolina measure. The North Carolina House of Representatives just passed legislation that would shield drivers who hit protesters. From WFAE:

Last year, in the wake of the killing of Keith Lamont Scott, protesters took over Charlotte city streets, even marching down sections of I-277 and I-85.

The often chanted “Who’s street? Our street!”

All this caught the attention of Republican Representative Justin Burr of Montgomery County. “As we’ve seen, time and time again, as folks run out in the middle of the streets and the interstates in Charlotte and attempt to block traffic,” Burr said as he introduced the bill. He wants to ensure “drivers don’t have to fear driving through Charlotte or anywhere in North Carolina.”

House Bill 330. The bill would protect motorist from any civil liability if they hit someone who is blocking traffic in a public right of way. From the bill:

§ 1‑539.13  Immunity from civil liability for certain automobile drivers.

(a)A person driving an automobile who is exercising due care and injures another person who is participating in a protest or demonstration and is blocking traffic in a public right‑of‑way is immune from civil liability for the injury.

(b)A person shall not be immune from civil liability if the actions leading to the injury were willful or wanton.”

SECTION 3.  This act is effective when it becomes law and applies to injuries occurring on or after that date.

Why this matters? The protesters who are blocking traffic are infringing upon the freedoms of other people. They are stopping others from practicing their own rights. These aren’t protesters who are merely on the side of the road to make a point; they are actually blocking the free will of other Americans, and they have no right to do that.

It’ll be interesting to see what morons come out against this bill. Protests are part of the First Amendment, but blocking others from practicing their own freedom is not.  Protesters get what they deserve if they refuse to get the hell out of the way.
