COVID-19 vaccination efforts have decelerated or plateaued in developing and developed nations alike. To deal with vaccine holdouts, leaders across the world have proposed concrete benefits such as monetary compensation and lotteries, as well as punitive strategies such as barring unvaccinated people from restaurants, flights, and public places. However, leveraging such reactive techniques broadly may be viewed as coercion, trigger legal and political challenges, and even fuel public distrust toward authorities and harden anti-vaccination beliefs. Furthermore, by shying away from intrinsic motivation, health leaders miss an opportunity to leverage an array of behavioral, motivational, and organizational strategies that are supported by decades of management research. The Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles are looking to crack down on congestion with a new surcharge for ocean carriers’ import containers that linger on marine terminals.

Under the new policy, which will take effect on Nov. 1, the ports will charge ocean carriers for each container scheduled to move by truck that dwells at marine terminals for nine days or more. Oct. 25 (UPI) — Jeff Bezos announced plans on Monday for Blue Origin to run the world’s first private space station called the Orbital Reef, which would serve as a space business park and a regular destination for space tourists.

Iran has announced that the country’s energy infrastructure was hit by a massive cyberattack on Tuesday, which left state subsidized gas stations across the country out of commission, resulting in very long lines of cars observed waiting to fill up in many towns and cities.

The timing is interesting given it happened near the two year anniversary mark of deadly nationwide protests following serious gas shortages and price hikes in the fall of 2019. After receiving government (taxpayer) funds through Operation Warp Speed to develop these mRNA vaccines, the main players are raking in billions. This vaccine was never meant to eradicate the virus – the coronavirus will always exist and it’s here to stay. It’s a virus that’s contagious to both animals and humans. We could never completely eliminate the virus even if everyone wore protective suits indoors 24/7 and received ongoing vaccines.
