Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, has introduced legislation that would require gun owners to obtain a 5-year federal license to “buy and possess” a firearm.
The licensing process outlined in the Federal Firearm Licensing Act would be handled by the U.S. Department of Justice.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – California lawmakers on Wednesday passed a statewide cap on annual rent increases for most tenants, the boldest step yet to address an affordable housing crunch that has helped push people into the streets.
The bill limits annual rent increases to 5% after inflation and takes effect from March of this year. It also imposes restriction on evictions without cause – a significant factor in the state’s burgeoning homeless population. Lexington, KY — It is no secret that the lack of training in many police departments leads to police officers firing their weapons when they should not be doing so. It is also no secret that these shots will often end up in the bodies of children and innocent individuals as well. Indeed, hundreds of people are shot and left permanently disabled or even killed every year by improperly trained police officers. As the following story illustrates, in some instances, this lack of training is so overt that even cops aren’t safe from it. August gun sales were up 15% thanks to Democrats’ totalitarian demands for mandatory buybacks. Those who bought guns were Americans seeking self-protection and with deep concerns that President Donald Trump is on board with gun control.
According to the Washington Examiner, the overall number of background checks recorded in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System surged 15.5%. Those numbers were courtesy of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). That figure includes background checks done for security, concealed carry permits, and gun sales and was the highest August number ever recorded. One of the people President Trump honored for his heroism during a mass shooting in an El Paso Walmart last month was arrested by the Secret Service during his visit to the White House on Monday due to an outstanding criminal warrant, law enforcement officials told the Washington Examiner.
Police say his tale of heroics does not match video evidence. Chris Grant, 50, was shot in the ribs and a kidney during the Aug. 3 rampage that claimed 22 lives. He was not present for a White House ceremony Monday, but his mother Minnie Grant, 82, accepted a signed certificate on his behalf. ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An Orange County Sheriff’s Office patrol corporal wounded himself Wednesday when he accidentally fired his weapon during a training exercise, officials said.

New Jersey, a state already armed with some of the strictest gun control laws in the country, got even tougher on the firearms industry Tuesday with a new order by Gov. Phil Murphy.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency is looking to build a “state-of-the-art” “urban warfare” training facility that will include “hyper-realistic” simulations of homes, hotels and commercial buildings in Chicago and Arizona.
In an acquisition form for the procurement of “hyper-realistic training devices” for a new training facility for its expanding Special Response Team (SRT) program, ICE outlined the details of plans for its new training center in a document published on the U.S. Federal Business Opportunities website. As tornadoes and straight-line winds blew off roofs and destroyed buildings Tuesday night in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, most of the city’s warning sirens failed to sound.
Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken said Wednesday that the problem was caused when an employee in the city’s 911 dispatch center didn’t follow the proper procedure to initiate all 77 of the city’s warning sirens, the Argus Herald reported. Instead, only one quarter of them were activated.
