U.S. leaders are demanding the rest of the world recognize economic sanctions and stop buying Iranian oil. The U.K., Germany, France, Russia, China, and India are among the nations who don’t fully support the sanctions and would rather not pay higher prices for oil elsewhere.

American officials more and more often resort to delivering ultimatums, both to adversaries and allies alike. Nations that do not follow orders stand to lose access to the U.S. financial system and could face trade sanctions of their own. That is a serious threat. House Democrats are expected on Tuesday to bring to a vote a bill to grant protection from deportation and a path to permanent residency for millions of illegal immigrants.

H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act, will likely pass the Democratic-controlled House, although it is dead on arrival in the Republican-controlled Senate. Israeli politics reached a new level of absurdity on Tuesday when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – who is facing three separate corruption charges – allocated the justice portfolio to himself, on top of his other ministries.

Former Broward County Deputy Scot Peterson was arrested and charged on Tuesday for child neglect after an investigation into law enforcement’s response to the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that occurred last February.
