President Daniel Noboa appears to have stolen Ecuador’s elections. Now he’s poised to consolidate control of a system that has benefited cartels and multinational corporations, including his family business, at the expense of ordinary citizens. And Washington likes what it sees.
The wanton abandonment of constitutionality and the subsequent assault on the civil liberties of Americans that disregard entails is an embodiment of the festering corruption plaguing Washington. While President Donald J. Trump has promised to be the panacea that would rid the United States of that disease for the better part of a decade since first being elected as president in 2016, many of the actions of his second presidential administration convey that he has become infected himself instead of proving to be any such cure. Following a stunning admission by the president that his administration is considering deporting US citizens to be imprisoned in El Salvador, the prognosis that Trump’s return to the White House will usher in a return to the rule of law looks to have been met by its death knell. Confessed Pennsylvania governor’s mansion arsonist Cody A. Balmer, who is now being hospitalized for an unspecified reason, told police he was prepared to beat Gov Josh Shapiro with a sledgehammer if he encountered him. Meanwhile, new details have emerged that paint Balmer as a quintessential dead-ender with a troubling assault charge on his rap sheet — and a mother who’d tried in vain to get police to lock him up in the days leading up to the arson attack.
In an appearance at the Dauphin County District Court, Balmer was charged with eight crimes, including attempted murder, aggravated arson, burglary, terrorism, reckless endangerment and prowling at night. As he was escorted both to and from the courthouse, Balmer made strange faces for the media throng, crossing his eyes and sticking his tongue out.
