Beijing has warned Washington not to “meddle” in the territorial dispute between China and Japan. Though the US has many thousands of troops stationed in Japan, China, an emerging naval power, is challenging for control of the surrounding seas.

I remember as a young child that the key to winning a lot of the neighborhood games in football and basketball was all about who got picked first. If you were lucky enough to get Michael on your team, then you knew you were going to win. If you were in a foreign park playing against kids you did not know, Michael was the great equalizer. I also knew that getting the right kids on my side helped in spelling bees and walking home from the movies so I didn’t get beat up. Learning how to organize my team with the right people, served me well when I became a men’s college head basketball coach in terms of winning the recruiting wars. WEB Notes: I see a disturbing trend in the media. Any and all protests against governments are being label as “anti-government” protests. Just because someone protests does not make them anti-government. This term is being use to demonize those who are standing up for their rights. I speak specifically of those who protest in the United States.

I just watched the hottest movie in the country, which is the sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire. The movie is based upon the second in the trilogy of books authored by Suzanne Collins and the movie takes up where its predecessor left off.

The punishment of the common citizens from the mythical country of Panem continues in retaliation for the previous rebellion of the 12 districts against the Capitol City government. As a result, the Hunger Games were created in which one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18, from each district, are selected through an annual lottery to participate in the games. This is an event in which the participants (i.e. so-called “tributes”) must fight to the death, until only one remains alive. Toy guns made to look like the real thing would be banned in California under legislation announced Friday in Sonoma County, where a sheriff’s deputy last month shot and killed a 13-year-old boy after mistaking his replica AK-47 pellet gun for an assault rifle.

The bill, to be introduced by five lawmakers, would require pellet and other toy guns to be brightly colored or translucent so they are easily recognized.
