It’s a building of dignity and honor, but what happened at the state capitol recently has law enforcement crying shame.
“Everybody in that building knew who we were,” said Wagoner county sheriff Bob Colbert, who, along with 40 other sheriffs from around the state, converged on the capitol as they do every year to meet and greet and lobby. Until…

“One of the senators, who they wouldn’t tell us, complained because we were armed in the building,” he said.
They were then given a choice, disarm or there’s the door.
“So we all packed up and left,” he said.
Colbert doesn’t know for sure which senator complained, but has his own complaints about the complainer.
“We’re the people that protect these people,” he said.
What’s more, he says, maybe if they were worried more about state business then law enforcement officers with guns, Oklahoma would be in better shape.
“If the state troopers are satisfied that we’re ok in that building I’m pretty sure that the legislators should have something else to worry about such as the economy or something,” he said.
He says some lawmakers have called to apologize, but the sting of getting the boot from the capitol is gonna hurt for a while.
“Pretty sad day for me,” he said.
You know they got be criminals when they are scared of even the Sheriffs. Which Senator is the criminal? Well that would be career politician, Jim Inhofe….
This is a tricky question here, because traditionally, and probably legally, no arms are allowed in a Senate or Capitol building, because that’s supposed to insure that debate can continue without threat or intimidation.
This law goes back to ancient Rome, and it was violated so Julius Caesar could be assassinated. (Julius Caesar was a tyrant who got what he deserved, but they should have did it outside of the Senate)
Ha… and it’s funny that this comes up during the ides of March.
(don’t correct me on that –I know many sources will say that the “ides of March” is March 15th, but they’re wrong. The “ides” actually include the 14th, 15th, and 16th.)
The Right to bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!
I don’t know, but I believe sane people can have a healthy debate while having their firearms at their side because they know when and how it is appropriate to use them. Insane people cannot. But that’s just my opinion. Plus there’s nothing in the Constitution or Bill of Rights that says we can’t have arms in a government building. So therefore, it is entirely legal to bring them in.
In any case, this is just another way of disarming everyone and protecting the criminal psychopaths.
I mean, it’s OK for Obama and his secret service and bodyguards to have a gun all over the place, but not a sheriff? Who the hell do they think they are? Secret Service and political bodyguards aren’t even in the Constitution. It’s bullshit!
You’re probably right, NC.
Ive never heard of any U.S. law that bars firearms from government buildings, and the constitution definitely doesn’t prohibit them anywhere. I was just providing some historical background for why the practice of bringing them into the Senate might be illegal here.
