Trump announces deal with Democrats to temporarily end government shutdown

US President Donald Trump announces a deal with the Democrats to temporarily reopen the government which has been shut down since December 22.

“I am very proud to announce today that we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government,” Trump said on Friday.

“In a short while, I will sign a bill to open our government for three weeks, until February 15,” he added in an address in the White House Rose Garden.

The spending bill Trump and the Democrats agreed to doesn’t contain the $5.7 billion he needs for a wall along the US-Mexico border.

The president also threatened to trigger another shutdown or a resort to emergency powers next month if Congress fails to provide border wall funding.

“If we don’t get a fair deal from Congress, the government either shuts down on February 15th again, or I will use the powers afforded to me under the laws and Constitution of the United States to address this emergency.”

Trump earlier said that he would not “cave” in to pressure from Democrats to reopen the government, after leaders in the Senate announced they had struck an agreement to hold two votes on January 24 in order to end the shutdown stalemate.

The president says the wall is essential to maintain security along the country’s southern border, but House Democrats believe that there are cheaper and more effective ways than the wall to strengthen border security.

They have offered to give Trump $1.3 billion in new border security funds this year to help pay for a range of high-tech and other tools to enhance security at the southern border.

Constructing a wall along the US-Mexican border could cost way above $25 billion, according to Trump’s critics in the Democratic Party.

Trump said Friday that “the walls we are building are not medieval walls. They are smart walls designed to meet the needs of front-line border agents and are operationally effective.”

“We do not need 2,000 miles of concrete wall from sea to shining sea, we never did, we never proposed that, we never wanted that, because we have barriers at the border where our natural structures are as good as anything we can build.”

  1. Scratchin’ my head. I think what I’m seeing is the lib-left zio-agenda acting as if it’s going up against the neocon-right zio-agenda, both dutifully serving the endgame agenda of GLOBALISM (aka Communism). And now the big game is deciding whether or not to impeach Trump. Maybe that’s why so much is on delay in terms of shutdown, wall, etc., while wars still wage in the background as they get the holdouts to heel. Trump may agree to let this impeachment happen to him and go down in history as the impeached fascist. No big thing for a multi-billionaire. The door then opens for full Communism with the neocons “appearing” to be in full opposition, thus maintaining the theater of the false left/right. We’ll see how they play it out.

Just trying to figure it out. Money is a deceitful master.

    .

  2. 25 billion for a wall when it only takes 5 billion to send all of the illegals back and enforce the damn border!!!

Who the hell is their accountant? Is he using common core math or something? WTF? That 20 billion can go back to the people and we can all go on a long deserved paid vacation from all of this turmoil.

    1. NC they can get rid of illegals. could be done for under 50k.
Authorize on a thursday, open season on next coming monday, all illegals heads to be paid for by the gov to the tune of $5.00frn.
If my bullet cost .30 and my gas cost $2.00 each. i double my money. PLus
With a hundred million illegals that number could add up but between Friday and Sunday they will flee in droves. I
Then offer $200 for criminal cartel in occupation members and watch the private jets fueled with “tax” money set out.
Capitalism can be fun. And profitable!

  3. The air traffic controller union owned Mr T. on this one. The potential shut down of air travel had the strangle hold.

F-k em’ he should have fired them all.

I see the whole charade lest I wouldn’t be here but until the open desert crossings are mined and artilleried daily nothing will change.

  4. “Regardless of your position on the shutdown, we should recognize the deceit involved in calling this a shutdown. Spending $12 billion per day is not a shut down. Spending 7% less than you spent last year is not a shutdown.”

    DUH!!!

“Calling the current budget impasse a shutdown is just another example of the political corruption of our language.”
