New Yorkers could soon be notified when gun offenders move into their neighborhood, according to DNA Info New York.

Proposed city council legislation would make a gun offender registry accessible to the public, and residents could sign up for alerts about developments in their neighborhoods.

“It gives you the name of the individual,” said Queens Councilman Costa Constantinides, one of the bill’s sponsors. “It gives you the street name — so let’s say 34th Street in that ZIP code. It’ll give you the general description of the individual. It’ll give you the crime that they committed and their sentence.”   Continue reading “New Yorkers Could Soon Be Notified When Gun Offenders Move Into the Neighborhood”

NYPD cops beat a man Wednesday night during a solidarity protest for Michael Brown, a video shows, although the circumstances surrounding the attack remained unclear early Thursday.

The 45-second video begins after police officers and the man have started arguing in the middle of a dark street in the East Village. Wisconsin –-(Ammoland.com)-  For years I carried a Ruger single action 45 Long Colt, Blackhawk revolver.

I was and still am a very good shot with that handgun. It has a short 4 5/8 inch barrel and has a hard chrome finish on it (pre stainless steel) so carrying it all day in the hot steamy summer did not ruin the finish.   Continue reading “It Is Too Late When The Riots Start”

North Carolina –-(Ammoland.com)-That’s the thing with nagging: by definition, it never, ever stops.

Once again, “Moms Demand a Gun Ban” has attempted to bully a retailer into banning guns from its stores.

This time they went after Kroger. Fortunately, it seems that management at Kroger sees the Moms for what they are: Michael Bloomberg’s bought-and-paid-for astroturf, and so their effort to pester Kroger into banning guns has failed. Kroger spokesman, Keith Dailey, has stated:   Continue reading “Kroger Chain Respects Your Right to Self Defense”

Two weeks ago the NYPD sent officers a memo reminding them that “members of the public are legally allowed to record police interactions.” In fact, “intentional interference such as blocking or obstructing cameras or ordering the person to cease constitutes censorship and also violates the First Amendment.” The memo said cops may take action against camera-wielding civilians only if they “interfere with police operations.” The directive sounds similar to one issued by Washington, D.C., Police Chief Cathy Lanier two years ago. If you are wondering why such reminders are considered necessary, it is because of incidents like this, described in a federal lawsuit filed last year by Brooklyn resident Dick George: Continue reading “New York Cops Know People Have a Right to Record Them; They Just Don’t Care”

Newly released video from NYC Housing Authority security cameras in Queensbridge appears to show that the NYPD is lying about a fatal crash that killed a Japanese student last year and may have tried to cover up the incident by discarding further video evidence. Although the NYPD has refused to release any video—which they previously claimed shows the NYPD vehicle with its flashing lights engaged—attorney Steve Vaccaro has obtained video from NYCHA through a Freedom of Information Law request.    Continue reading “Video Points To NYPD Cover-Up After Cop Fatally Ran Over Pedestrian”

FERGUSON, Mo. —With a controversial curfew lifted, and the National Guard on its way, protests were mostly peaceful Monday in this city that has been wracked by grief and rage over the killing of an unarmed black teenager.

Still, tensions remained high between police, demonstrators and the press. And Bishop Edwin Bass, who was on the scene urging people to remain calm, said that “the crowd shifts substantially about 8 p.m. A lot of the family people, and people here for legitimate protest reasons, leave. The people who are here for mayhem, confusion and chaos come out.”   Continue reading “Curfew dropped in Ferguson; attorney general to visit”

NYPD cops are receiving warnings to not record video, take photos or make audio recordings off of smartphones while on duty.New York Daily News – by Thomas Tracy

What’s good for the goose isn’t good for the gander — especially when it comes to cops and smartphones.

Cops throughout the department were sternly warned against using their personal cell phones to record video or take pictures while on duty unless authorized by a supervisor, the Daily News has learned.

“Members of the service are reminded that any video or audio created by any device, including a personal device becomes a record for legal purposes and is therefore subject to applicable evidentiary laws,” NYPD administrators said in an order dated Aug. 7 which prohibits cops from taking photos or video and audio recordings “during any encounter.”

The memo was sent out a day after rank-and-file cops were reminded that they can’t legally take action to stop someone from filming them while they’re on the beat.   Continue reading “NYPD cops have been warned against using their personal cell phones to record video or take photos while on duty”

Two weeks ago, the NY Post focused its attention on the very important scourge of squeegee men, plastering the face of squeegee king Gregg Washington on their cover with the completely hysterical headline, “Squeegee men are back terrorizing NYC streets,” because nothing strikes terror into the hearts of NYers more than men carrying Windex. The Post did their darndest to strong-arm cops into arresting the squeegee poster boy (for the 178th time), prompting Washington to declare that he was giving up his trade once and for all. But like the old saying goes: you can take the girl out of Jersey, but you can’t take the squeegee out of Midtown.   Continue reading “Squeegee King Gets Back To Work A Week After Retiring”

Arkansas State Police have removed almost all road blocks around Hoxie, with the exception of two, and most of the people evacuated earlier today have been able to return home.

Road blocks will remain at U.S. 67 south of U.S. 63 and U.S. 67 at the intersection with U.S. 230 as crews attempt to remove the wreckage of the collision.

Part of Hoxie in Lawrence County was evacuated after the two trains collided in the area overnight, killing two people, authorities said.   Continue reading “Evacuees returned to homes, some road blocks cleared after deadly NE Arkansas train collision”
