Even though parents may be floored by the idea a child could make a serious threat of a mass shooting, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office wants parents to know they take threats seriously.

That’s what happened to one mother of a Daytona Beach Seabreeze High School student who was arrested recently for threatening to “kill 7 people at a minimum” in a video game chat room, according to the sheriff’s office.

Jeffrey Epstein’s former Manhattan cellmate says guards at the lockup have been threatening him since the financier’s death, according to a legal filing by his attorneys Tuesday asking a judge to move him to a new prison.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police arrested at least 13 people and seized metal poles, bear spray and other weapons Saturday as hundreds of far-right protesters and anti-fascist counter-demonstrators swarmed downtown Portland, Oregon.

Authorities closed bridges and streets to try to keep the rival groups apart. A third rice cooker was found next to a trash can in Chelsea, though an investigation is ongoing as to whether all are connected. A California Highway Patrol officer was killed and two other officers were wounded in a wild shootout Monday evening off the 215 Freeway in Riverside that also left the gunman dead and motorists dodging bullets.

Officer Andre Moye, 34, was killed, and a second officer was in critical condition Monday night after the shooting, which also left a third CHP officer with minor injuries. The quiet of a summer Sunday afternoon was broken at Memorial City Mall when a masked man jumped on a food court table and proclaimed he would kill himself before he threw down an unknown object, leading hundreds of panicked shoppers and store employees to rush for the exits.

Only two people — a mother and her 16-year-old son — suffered minor ankle and leg injuries in the crowds, police said. The suspect remains at large and could face a charge of terroristic threats, police said.
