Build the Ultimate School Bug Out Kit for your KidsThe Organic Prepper

Is your child prepared to bug out from school?  Mine is.

Last year, I posed the question, “Should Your Kids Know How to Bug Out…from School?” and the answers to that question were incredibly varied. Some parents said that the kids shouldn’t be in public schools in the first place. Others said that they absolutely had a plan in place for their children. Still others said that the very idea was irresponsible and that kids should be under the supervision of a responsible adult, particularly in an emergency situation.   Continue reading “Build the Ultimate School Bug Out Kit for your Kids”

The Grocery Store Rebellion Week 1The Organic Prepper

My family and I decided to embark on a revolution.  We have banished the grocery store from our lives for the next 3 months.  Our Grocery Store Rebellion began on August 1, and this is an update on our first week.

The week began with two major upheavals. Our SUV went into the shop, and the cow in which we have milk shares died.

Luckily, we had some extra milk on hand, frozen, while our dairy farmer works on getting a new cow. We have about a 2 week supply of milk left, so we’re either going to have to wait, find a new source, spend a whopping $18 per gallon at the local co-op, or go without.   Continue reading “The Grocery Store Rebellion: Here’s What We Ate During Week 1”

Here is why we will not be getting the Ebola vaccineThe Organic Prepper

Yesterday, I wrote about my plans to safely isolate my family should the Ebola virus become pandemic in the United States.  What I didn’t touch on very much was the Ebola vaccine that is in the works.

The Ebola Vaccine could become mandatory.

Some people suspect that if a national health crisis were to occur, that a vaccine could be made mandatory. (I hope that President Obama doesn’t read my website, because I’d hate to give him any ideas – he gets so excited about circumventing Congress and making his own laws.)  He’s already signed an executive order that says people suspected of being ill can be detained and isolated. Michael Snyder of The Economic Collapse Blog wrote:   Continue reading “Here’s Why I Won’t Be Lining Up for the Ebola Vaccine”

Getting ready for lockdown in the event of an Ebola pandemicThe Organic Prepper

Are you prepared to go into lockdown mode if the Ebola virus begins to spread across the country?

Hopefully, fears of a possible Ebola pandemic are exaggerated and being fanned by a government with an agenda and greedy pharmaceutical companies.

However…   Continue reading “Prepping for an Ebola Lockdown: No one goes out, no one comes in”

Pennsylvania Shuts Down Seed LibrariesThe Organic Prepper

It looks like Michigan is not the only state with a Department of Agriculture that is adamant about the best interests of their citizens.  Residents in Pennsylvania can now breathe a little bit easier since an illegal enterprise has been shut down.

The Joseph T. Simpson Public Library in Mechanicsburg was participating in an activity that put the entire ecosystem of the state at risk.

In an astonishing act of hubris, they were running a seed library, right there amongst the books, in the very facility where small children go to have stories read to them.   Continue reading “Dept of Agri Shuts Down Cell of Potential “Agri-Terrorists”: Seed Libraries Outlawed in Pennsylvania”

Do you ever read something that defies logic to such a vast extent that you have to read it twice to make certain you understood it correctly? Or you have to look it up because you think (hope) it’s satire, because it’s just so ridiculous it couldn’t be serious?

How about this?

If faced with a person open-carrying a legal firearm, you should STEAL to express your disapproval.

That is precisely what philosophy professor Jack Russell Weinstein of the University of North Dakota is recommending. For real.   Continue reading “Philosopher Solves “Problem” of Open-Carry: Terrified Patrons Should Dine and Dash Because “lives could be on the line””

Whatever can go wrong will go wrongThe Organic Prepper – by Daisy Luther

Disasters and personal SHTFs come in all shapes and sizes.

Clearly, I am concerned about things like an Ebola pandemic, war, martial law, and economic collapse.  I’m a news junkie and am gifted (or cursed) with a vivid imagination.  But personal things can cause a lot of upheaval when you are on a tight budget.  And if Murphy’s Law holds true (and it often does) whatever can go wrong, will go wrong, generally at the worst possible time.

Take my SUV, for example. (Please, take it and give me a different one!)  I was driving down the road on Monday when I noticed that it was beginning to overheat. I pulled over, let it cool down, and limped in at 20 miles an hour to a nearby shop, hoping it was something little like a leaky radiator cap.    Continue reading “The Austerity Diaries: Everything That Can Go Wrong, Will”

Why I am going low tech to prep for an EMPThe Organic Prepper

This might be stating the obvious, but in the event of an EMP, things will not be the same, no matter how great your generator is.

Aaron Dykes of Truthstream Media wrote an excellent article about the extreme likelihood of a catastrophic event that could take out our power grid:   Continue reading “The Big Blackout: Why I’m Going Low-Tech to Prep for an EMP”

when fruit needs a passportThe Organic Prepper

Have you ever thought about how wildly unrealistic and unsustainable our current diets are?  Items that don’t grow within the same season are commonly consumed together. Things that don’t grow on the same continent are combined into all sorts of meals.  We eat blueberries in December and drink pumpkin spice lattes in the summer.  We eat tropical fruit with Midwestern grains.  Without the transportation system, there would be absolutely no rhyme or reason to our “normal” diets.   Continue reading “The Unsustainable Absurdity of the Average American Diet”

While Americans in the nearby city of Detroit face life in third world conditions, unable to even afford running water,  the state of Michigan decided to direct its resources towards cracking down on a small food co-op in Standish for having the utter audacity to provide milk, butter, cream and eggs to people who bought shares in the organic dairy.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture must be so proud of their deeds, after they forced Joe and Brenda Golimbieski, the owners of  Hill High Dairy and Jenny Samuelson, the owner of My Family Co-op, to dump out 248 gallons of milk, to break 100 dozen eggs, and to destroy an undisclosed amount of fresh cream, butter and cheese.   Continue reading “Michigan Dept of Agri Forces Farmer to Dump 248 Gallons of Organic Milk and Break 1200 Free Range Eggs”

spending freezeThe Organic Prepper

Most people spend money every single day.

I’m not talking about your day-to-day necessities like house payments and fuel for the vehicle. I’m talking about those little impulse buys that most of us make without thinking twice about them.

We spend more money than we realize on silly things.  If you spend money on the following, you could go a lot longer than you think without spending.   Continue reading “The Austerity Diaries: How Long Can You Go Without Spending Money?”

Illegal immigrants from Mexico could be bringing a little something extra across the border: infectious disease.

When I first read about this, I thought it was being blown out of proportion. I suspected that this was something geared to stir up civil unrest against those crossing our Southern border. However, as more information comes to light, it appears this is a very real issue, one that could affect us all. Melissa Melton of the Daily Sheeple wrote:   Continue reading “Worried about a Health Crisis Caused by Immigrant Kids? How to be chill without a refrigeratorThe Organic Prepper

Looking for a fun way to spend the hottest week of the summer thus far?

I’m just going to go out on a limb here and say that spending it without a working refrigerator is NOT it.

Last Wednesday I was out for the day.  I got home and opened the fridge and grabbed a drink. I though, “Hmm….that isn’t very cold.”

And indeed it was not, because my refrigerator had stopped working properly sometime earlier that day. Because of the 4th of July weekend, I wasn’t able to get anyone to come and repair it until Monday. Then, after it was diagnosed, a part had to be ordered which will not arrive until tomorrow. So there you have it…a solid week in 90+ weather with no fridge.   Continue reading “How to Still Be Chill Without a Refrigerator”

Sticking to a budgetThe Organic Prepper

Lots of experts will give you excellent advice on how to create a budget.  Creating a budget is actually pretty easy.  You figure out what your expenses are, take this from your income, and then figure out what to do with the money you have left over.

Sticking to the budget…that’s the tough part.

This is where most people experience financial failure. They know what they should be doing, but that little treat is just calling out to them, and they think, “One off-plan expense won’t matter.” Or perhaps they have a spouse who is not really on board with the whole budget business and they are constantly playing catch-up because of unplanned expenses. The economy is certainly not getting any better, so it’s important to get control of your finances NOW.   Continue reading “The Austerity Diaries: Creating a Budget…and Sticking to It”

Happy Independence Day…

But, then again, are we really that independent?  Would the Founding Fathers look at us and be proud, or would they bow their heads in sorrow at what our nation has become?

Most of the citizens of the United States are now like the victims of an abusive relationship. People try frantically to avoid breaking laws because they don’t want to be penalized.  They sacrifice their own well-being and happiness in order to avoid getting into trouble. I know that I personally get a little burst of adrenaline and say, “Oh crap!” every time a police car happens to be behind me, and I drive a little more carefully, signal a little bit sooner, and make certain my full stop lasts for a count of 5 Mississippis. How to stay cool without air conditioningThe Organic Prepper

It’s heatwave time again!

All across the country, the mercury is climbing…and staying there, way up at the top of the thermometer.  But running an air conditioner at full blast to combat the heat can be very expensive, and for those of us on a budget, the resulting bill can be crippling.

So what is a family with no air conditioning to do?   Continue reading “The Heat is On: How to Stay Cool without Air Conditioning”

Last month, a family in Georgia had their lives turned upside down by a brutal home invasion.

Imagine this: You’re visiting a relative’s home because your own house was destroyed by a fire. You, your spouse, and your children are peacefully sleeping and you awaken to terrifying chaos: Loud bangs, men shouting, your children screaming…you have no idea what’s going on.

Then you realize that you are the victim of a home invasion – you’re under seige…but the criminals who have burst in unannounced and launched an assault have badges and uniforms so it’s somehow legal…   Continue reading “What Would Happen If a Thug WITHOUT a Badge Threw a Grenade on Top of a Baby?”

30 Signs That You Are One of Those Crazy PreppersThe Organic Prepper

With all the recent talk in the news about “Doomsday Preppers” and the demonization in the media, you have to be aware that you’re considered a little….different. The fact that you are self-reliant is such an oddity to most that, frankly, they find you to be either nuts, a little bit scary, or both. According to the US government, we are all extremists on the verge of committing depraved acts of terrorism.

Here are the top 30 signs, should you ever be the subject of a nationwide manhunt, that you too will be considered a “Crazy Prepper on the Loose“:   Continue reading “30 Signs That You’re One of Those “Crazy Preppers””

How to Survive Skyrocketing Meat Prices Without Becoming a VegetarianThe Organic Prepper

The headline on Drudge Report caught my attention yesterday, In large font, it screamed “Prices for Meat, Poultry, Fish and Eggs are at an All-Time High.”

To those of us who have been watching the alternative news, this is no surprise. Mac Slavo of SHTFplan wrote about it HERE.  Lizzie Bennett of Underground Medic warned us HERE.  Michael Snyder of The Economic Collapse Blog and The End of the American Dream has been shouting this from the rooftops for more than a year – HERE and HERE are two recent examples. Between the drought in California, the virus that killed off a bunch of baby pigs, and overall inflation because of an increase in fuel prices, every bite you put in your mouth is costing more this year, and those prices will continue to rise.   Continue reading “How to Survive Skyrocketing Meat Prices (Without Becoming a Vegetarian)”

How Saving Money Is Better Than Earning ItThe Organic Prepper

We live in a society in which we pay for convenience.

The very best way to save money is to spend time.

Take a pizza, for example. Someone, somewhere, has to do the work to create that pizza. It might be more than one person.  But you pay for every set of hands involved in getting that meal in front of you. In a restaurant, you might be paying for the cook and for the server.  If you tend to get convenience meals at the grocery store, you are paying for someone else to have made the dough and assembled the pizza that you will in turn place in the oven at home.   Continue reading “The Austerity Diaries: How Saving Money Is Better Than Earning It”
