The number of restricted guns in Canada shot up 9.5 per cent last year, bringing the number of restricted firearms registered across the country to its highest point in more than a decade.
Since 2004, the number of restricted firearms such as semi-automatic rifles and handguns in Canada has doubled.

A federal government ban on the sale of guns to medical marijuana card holders does not violate the Second Amendment, a federal appeals court said Wednesday.

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake has struck southeast off the island nation of Vanuatu in Oceania, US Geological Survey has reported. An alert over a local threat of a tsunami was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC).
The quake hit less than 500 kilometers southeast of the Republic of Vanuatu (population 243,000) and 109 kilometers off the coast of Ile Hunter, part of French Pacific territory of New Caledonia (population 262,000), according to the USGS. Police have shot dead a suspect in an anti-terror operation in the Canadian province of Ontario.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed that a suspect was fatally shot in a police operation.
