French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has admitted Bashar Assad has won the war in Syria. However, he was quick to hit out at the Syrian leader, accusing him of failing to “win the peace” in the war-torn country.
“Assad won the war. But he hasn’t won the peace,” Le Drian said, speaking to France-Inter radio on Sunday. Standing next to a secretive Israeli atomic reactor earlier in the week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to “wipe out” his enemies. In a speech that many will see as the Jewish state breaking its long silence over the possession of nuclear weapons, the Likud leader warned that it has the means to destroy its enemies.
“Those who threaten to wipe us out put themselves in a similar danger, and in any event will not achieve their goal,” he said on Wednesday during a ceremony to rename the complex, near the desert town of Dimona. Police are investigating two incidents in which gunshots were fired at a luxury apartment building in Manhattan in the span of less than 48 hours.
No residents were hurt in the seemingly random shootings, in which bullets crashed through windows into two flats.

The smoke is worse than last year. Drove through two forest fires on Monday near Revelstokes, BC. One was huge and right on the highway. There were signs warning “Danger: Wildfires in Area” And I thought No Shit !!
Western Canada has been blanketed by smoke for days as hundreds of wildfires burn in British Columbia (BC).

A recent spate of shootings is driving a swelling chorus of calls for a handgun ban — but the nation’s top Mountie says she isn’t convinced it’s the answer.
On Monday, Montreal’s city council will debate whether to push for a federal ban on handguns. The motion before council calls on Montreal to demand the Liberal government ramp up the restrictions in its Bill C-71, tabled last March, by prohibiting civilians from possessing assault rifles and handguns. Investigative Journalist Jen Moore was found dead in a suburban Washington D.C. hotel room Monday, according to police and shocked and distraught friends and colleagues.
Moore died of an apparent seizure. Police are closely investigating the cause of death after former FBI Agent Robyn Gritz, a friend of Moore’s, made inquiries with homicide detectives Monday afternoon in Prince Georges County, Maryland. A Medicine Hat, Alta., man is facing charges of inciting hatred in public after complaints from a local business about someone displaying money stamped with with an anti-Semitic message.

Saturday night, July 14, the Israeli military announced nationwide IDF exercises would be conducted until the end of the week – an effective measure for placing the armed forces on the ready for war. The public was advised to expect unusual military traffic on the roads. This announcement appeared to conflict with earlier IDF assurances that large-scale tank and special units were standing by on the Gaza border ready for Hamas to further escalate the massive, continuous rocket barrage it launched against southern Israel as of Friday night (more than 100 rockets).
