This elephant in Nagarahole National Park in India shocked many scientists many it appeared to exhale a large cloud of smoke. The elephant is seen picking up something from the forest floor and closing its mouth and then exhaling the smoke. Scientists are guessing it may have been trying to ingest the wood charcoal.

Toy makers big and small braced for severe disruption as bankrupt retailer Toys R Us Inc. confirmed Thursday that it plans to liquidate its U.S. business.
Toys R Us, which for decades was the nation’s go-to store for toys and games, said it plans to shutter all 735 stores in the United States and Puerto Rico, including 22 in the greater Los Angeles area and 87 in California overall.

In what is seen as a victory for parental rights, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled in favor of Arizona parents who had their 3 children removed from their home simply because they had taken photos of them after a bath when they were laying on a towel naked. They went to develop the photos at a Walmart, and an employee reported them to the police who were called in to investigate. Update: Several senior White House officials told Recode Monday that the Trump administration has no plans to build a “nationalized” US 5G network. The presentation, compiled by an unnamed senior NSC aide, was merely a dated proposal that will probably never see the light of day, the officials said.

Two leading members of the House Freedom Caucus are calling on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign. Writing in an op-ed published in the Washington Examiner on Thursday, Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Reps. The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are probing whether a string of shootings in Harrisburg, Pa., on Friday constituted an act of terror.

The White House released its congressionally-mandated National Security Strategy report (warning: PDF) yesterday. Tucked away in a section on improving America’s infrastructure was this action item: “We will improve America’s digital infrastructure by deploying a secure 5G Internet capability nationwide.” Other than natural gas, 5G wireless service was the only area of technology to get a specific calling out for infrastructure. Michigan State University economics professor Mark Skidmore made an astounding discovery about the finances and budgets of the U.S. federal government earlier this year. He and a team of graduate students discovered $21 trillion missing in the federal budget going back to 1998. Dr. Skidmore, who specializes in public finance, explains, “We know from official government sources that indicate $21 trillion is, in some way, unaccounted for. Furthermore, if we come back to the Constitution, all spending needs to be authorized by Congress. It looks to me, and I think I can conclude with a high degree of certainty, there is money flowing in, as well as out, that is unaccounted for. . . . Thanksgiving meals will be served to thousands of homeless and near-homeless individuals today on Skid Row and in Pasadena and Canoga Park amid calls for donations and volunteers for the rest of the year.
The Midnight Mission will serve Thanksgiving brunch to nearly 2,500 homeless and near-homeless men, women and children, according to Georgia Berkovich, its director of public affairs.
