The biggest difference in US and Canadian law enforcement is that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is a national police force. A Mountie has full police powers anywhere in Canada. The family of Kyam Livingston, a 37-year-old mother of two who died in police custody this past July, is suing New York City and the NYPD, The New York Daily News reports.

Livingston was arrested on July 20 at 1:51 a.m. after getting into an argument with her 79-year-old grandmother, Theresa Johnson, while drinking a bottle of vodka.
