Rich People Are Trucking Their Own Water Into Drought-Ridden CaliforniaGizmodo – by Alisa Walker

Although 81 percent of the state is experiencing an “extreme drought,” for many parts of California there is no apparent water shortage. Visit the highest-income neighborhoods and you’ll see lush lawns and sparkling fountains defiantly sucking our lifeblood from the Earth. Apparently, the rich will do whatever it takes to keep themselves moist.

To find out how celebs manage to remain so hydrated, Politico visits Montecito, a tiny, tony city just southeast of Santa Barbara. Montecito is famous for many reasons, including having some of the highest real estate values in the country. That, paired with its proximity to L.A., makes it a haven for celebrities, who have clustered their estates along the idyllic coast.   Continue reading “Rich People Are Trucking Their Own Water Into Drought-Ridden California”

An Oregon gun manufacturer is blaming the Obama administration for blocking its ability to process orders for parts. This is despite the fact that it claims to have done nothing wrong.

Specifically, Calico Light Weapons Systems is pointing the finger at “Operation Choke Point” – a Justice Department initiative rolled out in 2013 intended to crack down on companies involved in fraud or money laundering and obstruct their access to banks.   Continue reading “Gun maker blames Obama administration for blocking sales”

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A doctor who became infected with Ebola while working in Liberia — the third American aid worker sickened with the virus — arrived Friday at a Nebraska hospital for treatment.

Officials at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha have said Dr. Rick Sacra, 51, will be treated at the hospital’s 10-bed special isolation unit, the largest of four such units in the U.S. Sacra, a doctor from suburban Boston who spent 15 years working at the Liberia hospital where he fell ill, felt compelled to return after hearing that two other missionaries were sick. Sacra delivered babies at the hospital, but was not involved in the treatment of Ebola patients, so it’s unclear how he became infected with the virus that has killed about 1,900 people.   Continue reading “US doctor infected with Ebola arrives in Nebraska”

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon was flying out of St. Louis around noon on Aug. 9, about the same time as a white policeman was fatally shooting an unarmed black 18-year-old a couple of miles from where Nixon had just delivered a college commencement speech.

By the next night, rioting and looting had erupted in Ferguson, where Michael Brown was killed. Since then, questions have been raised about whether the governor should have responded faster to an increasingly chaotic and racially tense situation that focused the eyes of the nation on the St. Louis suburb.   Continue reading “Records: Gov. In 1961, the police department in Inglewood, Calif., put out a scare film titled “Boys Beware” as a warning to teen boys about older predatory homosexuals. In the knowing voice-over, the officer warns that men like the character Ralph, who offer hitchiking teens rides and compliments, could have ulterior motives–and an ailment.

Free Edgar Steele

On September 4, 2014, early afternoon, a California mortuary notified Mrs. Cyndi Steele that her husband Edgar was dead.  Since that time, specific circumstances regarding Mr. Steele’s death are being confirmed. This web site and the Edgar Steele Defense Fund (ESDF) will release more information as it becomes available.

Mrs. Steele contacted the ESDF Board, saying she was utterly devastated by this information, and is furious that no Victorville representative contacted her in the last few days regarding his failing health and did not even call her regarding the death of her husband. Featured photo - The CIA’s Mop-Up Man: L.A. Times Reporter Cleared Stories With Agency Before PublicationThe Intercept – by Ken Silverstein

A prominent national security reporter for the Los Angeles Times routinely submitted drafts and detailed summaries of his stories to CIA press handlers prior to publication, according to documents obtained by The Intercept.

Email exchanges between CIA public affairs officers and Ken Dilanian, now an Associated Press intelligence reporter who previously covered the CIA for the Times, show that Dilanian enjoyed a closely collaborative relationship with the agency, explicitly promising positive news coverage and sometimes sending the press office entire story drafts for review prior to publication. In at least one instance, the CIA’s reaction appears to have led to significant changes in the story that was eventually published in the Times. Continue reading “The CIA’s Mop-Up Man: L.A. The DOJ Inspector General released a report on the FBI’s use of National Security Letters (NSLs)—the controversial (and unconstitutional) surveillance instruments used to gather personal information of Americans without any prior oversight from a judge. In a little-noticed passage buried in the report, the IG describes how NSLs have been used on journalists in the past, and indicates that the FBI can currently circumvent the Justice Department’s media guidelines to do so in the future.
