A fire and explosion at a military explosives facility near the Iranian capital Tehran has left at least two people dead, reports say.
The semi-official Iranian Students News Agency (Isna) said the fire was in an “explosive materials production unit”.

This is the first photo of the homeless man who sparked an Ebola alert in Dallas on Sunday after going missing following possible contact with an infected patient.
Michael Lively was the first patient to ride in the ambulance that was used to carry Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan to Presbyterian Hospital, Texas.

Madison, Wisconsin – Petitions for review will be filed with the Wisconsin Supreme Court in three separate cases involving the legality and constitutionality of contracts between farmers, private citizens and private food groups’ rights to acquire raw milk and other fresh sustainably grown and raised foods. Two of the cases, the Zinniker petition and the Grassway petition, will be filed Monday, October 6, 2014. The Vernon Hershberger petition was filed in August, 2014. All three cases are represented by the attorneys of the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund, Elizabeth Rich and David Cox. A second Ebola patient to be treated at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha will arrive there early Monday morning, the center said in a statement. The patient is believed to be an American freelance cameraman who worked for NBC.

US Vice President Joe Biden has made the latest in a series of chastening apologies, after the United Arab Emirates expressed “astonishment” at his Thursday remarks. Biden called US allies “the biggest problem” in fighting terrorism in the Middle East.

ARTESIA, N.M. (AP) — Trailers have been set up for a school at a federal immigration detention center in an isolated New Mexico desert town. A basketball court and a soccer field have been installed. And detainees are pleading their cases over a video link with judges in Denver.
Officials say that the facility, billed as a temporary place to house women and children from Central America who were among a wave of immigrants who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally this year, could remain open until next summer. INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Indiana aid worker threatened with beheading by the Islamic State group said in a June letter that he’s afraid to die and is saddened by the pain his captivity must be causing his family, his parents said Sunday.

GM mosquitoes developed by Oxitec, a UK company, were already released in other countries as a means to control disease. The company is also trying to release them in the Florida Keys, while working to release GM olive flies in Spain. But it gets even more bizarre – now Oxitec wants to release GM moths in New York.
GeneWatch UK has been following Oxitec’s moves and has noted that the company’s GM experiments have not undergone environmental assessment risks at all. The company is a spin off from a multinational seed company, with deep ties to Syngenta. Oxitech claims to be in the business of pest control, but another theory is that they are in the business with other eugenicists for pest creation. The conductor of a Union Pacific freight train and an engineer on board were injured on Sunday when it crashed into a tractor-trailer that was stuck on tracks in northern Louisiana, a spokesman for Union Pacific said.
Two locomotives and 17 rail cars were derailed by the collision in Mer Rouge, said spokesman Jeff DeGraff. Two of the cars were carrying argon, a non-flammable refrigerated gas, and a three-block evacuation was put in effect in the area. IGUALA, Mexico – A clandestine grave on the outskirts of a Mexican city where police clashed with student protesters a week ago contained 28 bodies but the remains are too damaged for immediate identification, state officials said.
Guerrero State Prosecutor Inaky Blanco said he could not say whether any of the dead could be some of the 43 college students reported missing after the violent confrontation in Iguala, located about 120 miles south of Mexico City. Many pundits have presented the case that society needs to reward the achiever. It is argued that the most talented should attain positions of authority, based upon their superior ability. The end result is the formation of a power structure of Elite’s; making the decisions, formulating policies and directing the organizations that carry out the plan. It is most difficult to quarrel with the notion that talent is not distributed equally, but it becomes a giant leap to conclude that the very attribute of aptitude, is the sole criteria that justifies positions of authority. First thing first; We want to make it perfectly clear that even a single death is a tragedy. Any violent act such as a mass shooting is an incredibly sad event. We, as concealed carriers, carry a firearm because we value life. We don’t ever want a need to arise where our firearm is discharged in self-defense. We don’t ever want to do that, but we are prepared to defend ourselves should the need ever arise.
The coupling of a CDC report on death statistics with an FBI report on mass shootings gives us a look at some pretty sobering numbers regarding the total deaths caused by mass shootings. From the period of 2000 through 2013, mass shootings accounted for a total of 418 deaths; an average of 29.8 deaths per year. Three home intruders, two still on the loose, broke through the front door of a home in Texas early this morning while a family was eating breakfast in their kitchen. At least one intruder was armed with a rifle and at the moment of the break-in, one family member went to retrieve a gun of their own.
