A Texas man is standing defiant after he claims he was told by his apartment complex that  he had to remove an American flag from his balcony because it was a “threat towards the Muslim community.”

Duy Tran told KHOU that he has friends who died for the country, so he decided to hang one from his balcony after moving into a new apartment in Webster, Texas. In his latest column, former U.S. Treasury official Paul Craig Roberts says that George W. Bush and Barack Obama have established the precedent that impeachment is a “dead letter law,” with both Congress and the Judiciary accepting their impotence in the face of a tyrannical executive. As an illustration of how this state of affairs came about, Roberts cites a communication he received from Professor Francis A. Boyle of the University of Illinois Law School.

Boyle relates how, on the eve of the Iraq War in March 2003, Rep. John Conyers, the senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, convened an emergency meeting of 40 or more of his top advisors, mostly lawyers. Boyle continues:

Even the most cursory reading of history immediately reveals that imperial powers are free, if not uniquely entitled, to engage in massive crimes against humanity without fear of retribution or legal punishment. 

Examples of this essential truth abound. So Belgian killers likely were not deterred from expanding their genocidal campaign in the Congo out of fear of legal action from the Congolese. British imperialists gave no thought to the idea of Indians bringing English generals to trial for their acts of mass murder and French colonialists intensified their economic exploitation of Haiti, secure in the belief that their brutal deeds would go unpunished. In fact, in the case of Haiti the only “crime” punished was when Haiti’s slave population liberated themselves, an act of disobedience for which the island’s inhabitants were subjected to harsh indemnity payments.

WASHINGTON — The House Ethics Committee on Friday ordered Representative Don Young, Republican of Alaska, to pay a fine of almost $60,000 for using campaign money for personal purposes and for accepting “impermissible gifts.”

Over the last couple weeks I have been glued to the true story “The Lone Survivor,” where four of America’s finest Navy SEALs of “Operation Red Wings” were sent to do some reconnaissance concerning terrorists in Afghanistan.

Right from the start it seemed very clear that the special op was cursed. All the way from herdsman coming directly into their particular position where they were discovered (they could not terminate the compromise of being discovered because of Rules of Engagement), to being surrounded by 200 Taliban while they were waiting and expecting to be extracted but could not (their radio signal was too weak to reach headquarters). Then there was the downing of two Chinook helicopters (two apache helicopters would have given them cover, but they were grounded). All circumstances around this operation seem very strange both from within and from without. Tragically, three of the four SEALs were killed. “Exceptional” drought conditions have spread in Central California since a week ago, weather officials said.
