The war on cash is escalating. Just a week ago, the infamous Willem Buiter, along with Ken Rogoff, voiced their support for a restriction (or ban altogether) on the use of cash (something that was already been implemented in Louisiana in 2011 for used goods). Today, as Mises’ Jo Salerno reports, the war has acquired a powerful new ally in Chase, the largest bank in the U.S., which has enacted a policy restricting the use of cash in selected markets;bans cash payments for credit cards, mortgages, and auto loans; and disallows the storage of “any cash or coins” in safe deposit boxes.

Buiter defended his “controversial” call for a ban on cash, as Bloomberg reports:   Continue reading “Largest Bank In America Joins War On Cash”

(Angela Fritz)  Late April is starting to feel more like mid-winter for many parts of the U.S. this week. The Great Lakes and Northeast woke up to snow on Thursday morning and for some, it was actually the fourth day in a row of the wintry weather.

Since Sunday, it has snowed in at least 23 states, as far south as New Mexico, according to the national snow analysisfrom the National Weather Service. Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin have been seeing snow all week, but are finally getting a reprieve on Thursday (if you can call temperatures in the 30s a reprieve).   Continue reading “Winter makes a comeback with snow in 23 states”

natural medicineReady Nutrition – by Tess Pennington

The FDA has been on a crusade against natural medicine that has spanned decades. Their skepticism and perhaps disdain for natural medicine could simply be because, at the moment, they are untouchable. In 1938, a U.S. senator (and homeopath) named Royal Copeland passed a law classifying homeopathic treatments as drugs. Since then, these products are deemed wholly natural and cannot be patented or regulated in any way, thus acting as a thorn in side for the FDA.   Continue reading “How the FDA is Is Planning on Taking Down Alternative Medicine”

The plea agreement carried a possible sentence of up to a year in prison. In court papers, prosecutors recommended two years’ probation and a $40,000 fine. But Judge David Keesler increased the fine to “reflect seriousness of the offense.” He said Petraeus committed a “grave and uncharacteristic error in judgment.”

Here we are deep into spring and winter is back, and coming early in the southern hemisphere. I have been holding back publishing Cold Climate Change – Preparing for the Next Ice Age simply to watch and report on what happens these last few weeks before winter leaves allowing agricultural nurturing warmth to return to farmers’ fields allowing them to get on with their business of feeding the rest of us. This system that we continue to participate in, as if everything is okay, is completely and irretrievably broken.

“The car industry cannot stop making new cars because they would have to close their factories and lay off tens of thousands of employees. This would further add to the recession. Also the domino effect would be catastrophic as steel manufactures would not sell their steel. All the tens of thousands of places where car components are made would also be effected, indeed the world could come to a grinding halt.”
