Over a period of two decades, 2.5 million single parent families experienced a 35 percent decline in federal assistance while those earning slightly more saw aid rise 74 percent, the New York Times reported.

The findings come from research that covers the 15 largest social safety net programs of the period between 1983 and 2004. They demonstrated that aid spending had dramatically increased. A bipartisan group of lawmakers on Capitol Hill are pressuring the White House to declassify 28 pages of the 9/11 Commission Report that have been rumored to detail an investigation into alleged ties between Saudi Arabia and Al-Qaeda.

These pages have been classified since the original report was released during the presidency of George W. Bush, and President Barack Obama has so far declined to declassify them. LUHANSKE, Ukraine (AP) — The Ukrainian presidential office has called on the European Union and NATO to condemn the Russia-backed rebels for violating the cease-fire.

MANKATO — A Mankato man who sat in jail for weeks awaiting trial for possessing a large amount of powder amphetamine was released recently after the charges were dismissed.

It turns out his story about the powder actually being vitamins was true.

Joseph Ray Burrell, 31, said he isn’t happy that it took as long as it did for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension crime lab’s findings to be processed. A federal judge has granted a request by 26 states to temporarily block President Obama’s executive action on illegal immigration, allowing a lawsuit aimed at permanently stopping the orders to make its way through the courts.

U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen granted the preliminary injunction Monday after hearing arguments in Brownsville, Texas last month. A security mission near the city of inner Samarra in Iraq has led to the arrest of the two relatives of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. A group from the Regiment Special Assignments has managed to detain the ISIS leader’s uncle Saleh Ibrahim Abdulmomen and the husband of al-Baghdadi’s niece Dhiya Nuori Sadoun.

Al Arabiya reports that Iraqi state television was told of the arrest by a security source from the southern Dhi Qar governorate’s police. An earthquake measuring at 6.9 magnitude has struck off Honshu island in northern Japan, prompting a tsunami advisory which anticipated waves of up to 1m in height in Iwate Prefecture. People in some coastal areas have been advised to leave their homes.

The quake was recorded at around 8 am local time at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers.
