We here at the Trenches offer our heart felt condolences to the family of LaVoy Finicum who was murdered on a desolate highway in Oregon, on January 26, 2016.
Funeral services for LaVoy Finicum will be held Friday, February 5 in Kanab, Utah. He is survived by his wife Jeanette and their eleven children. Georgia lawmakers have put forth several gun control bills this year, including a measure that would call on law enforcement to seize and destroy what the proposal deems “assault weapons” from gun owners.

Facebook Inc (FB.O) prohibited global users from coordinating person-to-person private sales of firearms on its online social network and its Instagram photo-sharing service on Friday, countering concerns that it was increasingly being used to circumvent background checks on gun purchases.
The move comes as the United States debates the issue of access to guns after a string of mass shootings. U.S. President Barack Obama has urged social media companies to clamp down on gun sales organized on their platforms. The Washington news director at Bloomberg Politics, Kathy Kiely, quit her job over the company’s policy about covering the possible presidential candidacy of founder Michael Bloomberg.
Kiely was apparently unhappy about Bloomberg Politics’s coverage of the possibility that Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City, was considering running for president. The New York Times broke the story, and Bloomberg Politics reported on the Times’ coverage, CNN noted. KANAB, Utah — The day after the FBI released footage from an incident in Oregon that ended with the death of protester LaVoy Finicum, the man’s family has released a statement saying they don’t believe the fatal shooting was justified.
The nearly three-page statement from the family opens by saying “We know that there are always at least two sides to every story. BURNS, Ore. (Reuters) – As four armed anti-government protesters held their ground at a U.S. wildlife refuge in Oregon on Friday, the family of a protester killed by police said he seemed to have been shot in the back with his hands up, although authorities said he was reaching for a gun.
Relatives of Robert “LaVoy” Finicum, 54, a spokesman for the group that seized buildings at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, said he posed no threat and they were not accepting the authorities’ assertion that he was armed. A Russian jet sped closely by a U.S. Air Force spy plane “in an unsafe and unprofessional manner” over the Black Sea on Monday, a Defense Department spokeswoman told Fox News.

Marion County, FL — In August of 2014, multiple deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s office conducted a drug bust. During the bust, Derrick Price ran from deputies Jesse Terrell, Trevor Fitzgerald, James Amideo, Cody Hoppel and Adam Crawford. However, once he realized he could not outrun the pickup truck, he quickly stopped, put his hands up, and laid face down on the ground — completely surrendering.
Upon reaching the unarmed, nonviolent, completely compliant, and prostrate man, the deputies proceeded to unleash a furious beating composed of kicks to the head, knees to the body, and countless blows from fists. A huge sinkhole that won’t stop growing has shut down a stretch of Highway 101 in coastal Oregon.
“It’s massive. There’s just no other way to describe it,” Jared Castle, Department of Transportation spokesman for southwest Oregon, told NBC News.
The state closed down part of 101 in Harbor, Oregon, on Thursday night due to the sinkhole, which is the second sinkhole in as many months in the area. The first one opened on Dec. 13 in a restaurant parking lot next to the highway and, like Thursday’s sinkhole, just kept growing.
