Dangerous severe storms are ongoing in the South and have prompted the issuance of a particularly dangerous situation (PDS) tornado watch for parts of Georgia, north Florida and southeast Alabama into this evening.
A rare “high risk” severe weather outlook has also been issued for today by NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center (SPC) in parts of south Georgia and northern Florida, where supercell thunderstorms could spawn strong and long-track tornadoes. Cities in this danger zone include Albany, Savannah and Valdosta in Georgia, along with Tallahassee, Tampa and Jacksonville in Florida. WEB Notes: Just a week ago people were all up in arms that the UN was going to divide Israel and how the US was going to suffer God’s Wrath. Of course there was no danger of any vote or division as it was not on the agenda, but hey scaring the people is fun for some folks apparently. Standing in a chilly sea breeze, hundreds of American expatriate demonstrators gathered outside the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv to protest what they described as President Trump’s slights against women and minorities.
Demonstrators were careful to keep the focus local, though, singing Hebrew prayers for peace, protesting Trump’s promise to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, and holding up signs critical of the new president’s emerging bromance with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In re-introducing the ATF Elimination Act on Thursday, January 12, Representative Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) explained one of the primary reasons why: “The ATF is a scandal-ridden, largely duplicative agency that has been branded by failure and lacks a clear mission. It is plagued by backlogs, funding gaps, hiring challenges, and a lack of leadership.”
Not once did he explain the real reason the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF for short) should be eliminated: There is no provision anywhere in the Constitution that grants the federal government the powers the ATF exercises. HATTIESBURG, Miss. — At least four people were killed in southern Mississippi early Saturday when a destructive tornado roared through the Hattiesburgarea, leveling homes, ripping off roofs and tossing trees into roadways across the region.

Activists and politicians rallied huge crowds who descended on the nation’s capital today for the Women’s March on Washington this morning, the biggest of hundreds of similar marches taking place today.

It had been a long time since I had visited my alma mater, the U.S. Air Force Academy, so I decided to bite the bullet and travel to my 30th reunion last October. I must admit, I did so with trepidation. I have a love/hate relationship with the place. Although I received a fantastic education and met some lifelong friends, it’s a nice place to visit, if you know what I mean. A new bill wants to give first dibs on H-1B visas to the “best and brightest” foreign students educated in the U.S.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump’s first act as president will reportedly be to “clamp down” on the country’s immigration system and refugee resettlement program, while enforcing a “merit-based” method, focusing on skilled workers.

The man suspected of killing an off-duty Louisiana police officer was taken to a an area hospital after he shot himself on Friday evening, bringing to a close an hours-long standoff, authorities said.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Sylvester Holt, had been in a standoff with police and crisis negotiators for hours on New Orleans’ Crescent City Connection bridge when he shot himself, Louisiana State Police Trooper Melissa Matey said. Gamblers around the world are betting Donald Trump’s term in office will be cut short, ending in impeachment or his resignation, with the new president entering the White House amid controversy over conflicts of interest and investigations into his teams ties to Russia.
Popular online gambling site Paddy Power is giving 7/4 odds on Trump not completing his first term, and 4/1 on Trump being impeached within six months. These are favorable odds that are drawing large amounts of money from gamblers willing to risk a little for what could be a decent payout. U.S. District Judge Anna J. Brown said Friday she’ll work to ensure the transfer of Ammon Bundy and Ryan Payne from Nevada to testify at next month’s trial of seven defendants charged in the takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
“I’m convinced it would be error for the court not to facilitate them as witnesses,” the judge said.
But Brown wants both Bundy and Payne, who face federal prosecution in Nevada this spring, to personally consent to their brief transfer. She also wants their assurances that they won’t argue that the move will hurt their ability to prepare for their upcoming trial in Nevada.
