Before the 1920s, when Alexander Fleming first discovered penicillin, western medicine had no effective treatment for infection. Something as simple as a scrape or cut could progress into a blood infection (sepsis), and result in death. Since Fleming’s discovery, and with further advances in antibiotic research, we’ve been able to make drugs that treat different types of bacteria. Lives all over the world have since been spared.

In the process, information about natural remedies has been lost. Now, we are seeing a darker side to synthetic antibiotics. Overuse and improper use of antibiotics has led to bacterial resistance. The antibiotics we have relied on over the past century are becoming less effective against infections, or losing their potency all together. The extent of bacterial resistance is extreme. We now have “super bugs” which have grown resistant to all of our available antibiotics. The state is poised to take the first step Tuesday to regulate the substance — called 1,2,3, TCP — but test data compiled by an activist group show it’s also been detected by utilities across the country.

Hillary Clinton’s collusion with Russia has all but been ignored by the media. But it’s now becoming more clear that she has one big thing in common with the Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr. last year.

Of course, the news about Russian collusion between the Clintons and Moscow does not end with a commonality. It all ties together. Former Secretary of State Clinton’s initial opposition to sanctions on human rights abusers coincided with a $500,000 speech her husband gave in Moscow. This link was one her 2016 campaign conveniently fought to downplay and even “kill” in the press, according to WikiLeaks-released documents. Separatists in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday proclaimed a new state that aspires to include not only the areas they control but also the rest of the country. But Russia, their chief backer, sought to play down the announcement, saying it was merely part of public discussion.

The surprise announcement in the rebel stronghold of Donetsk casts further doubt on the 2015 cease-fire deal that was supposed to stop fighting in Ukraine’s industrial heartland and bring those areas back into Kiev’s fold while granting them wide autonomy. The second-highest ranking military officer in the U.S. told Congress on Tuesday that while North Korea “clearly” has missiles with the capability to reach the United States, it does not have the capacity to strike accurately or successfully.
